How cool is it that President Obama is putting weekly addresses on YouTube?

1/31/09: Your Weekly Address

Yes, you can subscribe to the whitehouse YouTube channel like any other YouTube channel. Yes, you can comment on it and offer your feedback. This combined with other websites shows that Obama is going to use technology to have the most transparent administration in our lifetimes.

Regardless of what you think of the guy, I just think this is insanely cool, and I hope future Presidents follow this example. As a citizen, I like to be kept in the loop and know what's going on.

I'm not sure if this is a good thing but its worth a try (anything's worth a try). We always feel distant from our leaders. Perhaps people wouldn't be so apathetic about politics if they felt more connected. Its good that he is taking a more personal approach and keeping us informed more often.

Just a shame that he has to do it on the "internet". Its bad enough how the anti-social neurotic cesspool of cultural waste which plagues the internet has spilled out into real life, putting aimspeak in the workplace, ect. But for our very own government to succumb to the sublte influence of YouTube, Mspace, wikipedia, 4chan, gaming blogs, otakus, furries (sorry Cyberfox), otherkin (sorry Tally), is mortifying. I mean, just visit Flames and Fanboys and imagine our country being run like that. Gives you stomach a very unpleasant feeling.

Then again, maybe I'm reading too much into it.

Death to ****ty video formats.

Not very appropriate for children, is it? Not that I care (I think we shield children from enough already) but still... what kind of example is this setting for other nations? What kind of message are we sending about our culture?

It isn't cool at all when you can't even use a teleprompter.

The guy is reading a friggin cue card off to the side.

Look at his eyes, when he talks to you, the people, he isn't even looking at you.

It looks and feels incredibly bad.

Even Bush could do it, and with him at least he looked you in the eye while he lied to you.

I love having a front row seat to whatever this is. Some of my favorite moments so far:

"Hey, I'm closing Gitmo....and I have absolutely no plan about what to do with the terrorists there! I might send some of them here and give them rights and increase the amount of money that YOU need to pay in order to maintain them. And heck, I might just send some of them back to the front lines of Al Qaida!"

"I'm going to have to stop doing these Youtube videos if you're going to comment on them."

"I'm bipartisan and I want to strive for a new era of bipartisanship.

Oh, P.S.....I WON"

"Hey, you know that legalized practice of killing unborn babies? I think that's A-OK, so much so that I'm now requiring Americans to pay taxpayer dollars to "educate people" (promote the practice) all over the world!"

"It is extremely important that we pass this $1 trillion stimulus package right away. So let's 'invest' 330 million dollars on STD education through the CDC and oh by the way, my plan doesn't create a single job until October of 2010."

Sorry... I just couldn't resist. Hey, at least we have a guy that looks cool on tv AND youtube.

Man, I think it is so sad that there are so many people still in need of STD education and who also seem to be unable to afford condoms/birth control for themselves.

Key words above: "seem to be" (these are the same people on welfare that I see wearing bluetooth earpieces everywhere they go)
