You'd think the friggin $400 you spend on a new one would guarantee you at least one single free update.. but no, I bought a brand new one and it's out of date right out of the box. THANKS APPLE.

Just suprised at it that's all. And I guess people are ok with it.. but I'll bet if MS did it (charged for FW updates) then it'd be OMFG.

    Screw them. It's w4r3z time.
Dude, you can get 3.0 for free easily but at the moment I urge you to wait and research it because I've yet to upgrade my own Touch. 3.0 seems to have some variable issues with WiFi especially that have made me not bother. Quite frankly I can't find a single reason to upgrade yet outside some possible future incompatibilities with specific apps.

The very least I can do is pirate their 3.0 firmware.. and I already have. This thing is now up to date, no thanks to them.
DOLT! I was too late! :/

In any case I already have too much crap on mine to upgrade and worry about losing it all...Especially since it's got a bunch of cool jailbroken crap on it, such as YouTube vids I saved via MXTube among others. :::cough:::

So...A couple of apps I'd like to recommend...

First off is Friendz. $1.99 and allows you live and working online status for your XBOX 360 friends list as well as message sending and retrieval straight through the app itself. Works great where the freebies never had.

Next is Pocket Tunes. Great little app that has a gajillion streaming net radio stations on top of full Sirius satellite radio support which includes Stern and sports. Not even the official Sirius app does that! The kicker? I don't have Sirius but a month ago I signed up for a limited 7 day trial of it. I opened Pocket Tunes, had it save my 'temporary' trial password and login and it works great. Sirius streaming on my Touch! The best part? It's been a month and I can still log in, for FREE. LOL! I even got an email from Sirius about four weeks ago stating "We hope you have enjoyed your free trial CLICK HERE to subscribe now!". Unfortunately this app also costs $9.99 and at the moment I am using a 'shareware' version of it since my Touch is jailbroken. I simply don't use it quite THAT much to justify ten bones to purchase it. Sorry. :P

That's weird that the Friendz app costs money because a while ago, Microsoft came out and said that no one could charge money for apps that utilized xbox live. They even made Apple change the price of some of them.

As someone who had an iTouch and has an iPhone let me say this: I don't think 3.0 is worth the 10 bucks for iTouch users. The irony is that all the features of 3.0 are made for the iPhone really (Irony being that iPhone users don't have to pay for it).

The only remotely interesting thing about 3.0 is the bluetooth unlocking. And since I don't buy or rent movies/TV from iTunes the aspect of them adding them to it via the Touch does nothing for me either. At the moment I am taking a purely if it isn't broke....Approach. Unless some amazing apps revert to 3.0 only, F it.

As I said, I am enjoying the useful hacks that come with a jailbroken Touch on 2.2 to bother upgrading and losing it all for 3.0's BS. Being able to clear processes, free memory, adjust brightness, WiFi and turn on and off various functions from a submenu anywhere alone is fantastic.

As for the whole XBOX thing, yeah, I don't get it either man...But hey it works, which is something the freebies don't do.

Just picked up Dungeon Scroll for .99 and it just may be my favorite game on the Touch.

    Official site.

The game is basically Bookworm mixed in with a little old school RPG (Think Bard's Tale). You are given letter tiles which are straight out of Scrabble, hit points and a monster to defeat. There are 25 dungeons with 3 difficulty levels containing a certain amount of monsters to defeat before you can move onto the next.

The strategy involved is surprisingly deep since the bigger words do more damage than smaller and you'll want to save those bigger ones for the tougher enemies you come across. Some monsters demand a certain length word to do damage as well. Adding into the mix are special tiles that heal and also do double to triple the damage based on their usage. Each encounter has you feverishly trying to create words in the form of attack spells as the enemy ebbs at your HP. After so many levels and 'perfect' victories you can unlock more abilities to help you along...

I haven't stopped playing it since I snagged it a few nights ago and for a buck it can't be beat. Weekly online leaderboards are a cool little addition as well.

    Very highly recommended!

The entire collection of Pixar shorts in perfect quality. They are $2.99 EACH on iTunes and of course **** that.

They come in handy when you are in the waiting room of the pediatrician's office for a half hour with a 2 year old who gets bored and wants to run around.

Jake is a huge fan of Cars and not only do I have the movie on there but the four shorts as well. It keeps him glued from causing mischief.

I am in love with Space Invaders Infinity Gene. It was designed for the iPhone really well. Probably the coolest part is you can select a song from your library, and it designs a stage around that song.

Pretty cool stuff. I am interested in picking up one of the baseball games. Maybe Power Pros. Anyone else pick it up yet?

I would love to play that Infinity Gene but am hesitant to update my Touch to 3.0 due to some people reporting WiFi issues.

Oh wow, I hadn't heard about any wifi issues. I've been running 3.0 since it came out without issue.
