Oh okay, I see what you're talking about. You must have a 1st Gen Ipod Touch. That model required a paid upgrade in order to make it capable of doing the apps. The 2nd Gen Touch does apps out of the box.

Sounds like a raw deal if you ask me. It's similar to my experience on my year-old Macbook where they wanted me to upgrade to Leopard just to get 64bit Vista drivers (which Tiger didn't have). I digged around long enough on the net and found that someone had extracted the drivers off the disk, so I downloaded them. At least with the Zune they let you update your firmware for free.

Yeah it is a raw deal, but that's basically the life of a gadget in this ever-evolving electronic world. Really though, when the 1st gen Ipod Touch came out I was not impressed at all. What sold me on the 2nd gen Touch were the apps. And for that, I've been more than satisfied (not to mention all the other little things I've discovered that I enjoy about the device). For someone like me who uses an Ipod everyday of my life and takes it with me everywhere I go, I get alot of mileage out of the thing.

Typing on the Touch is something that anyone would need to get used to though. Your Blackberry is most likely better for typing things.

In regards to your question, all music/apps/games/podcasts that you see on Itunes are downloadable straight to the Touch. This makes it like 100x more dangerous to be browsing the app store on the Touch because you are literally just a few taps away from making kneejerk purchases. I'm sure that is what Apple wanted though.

In the 10 min I spent typing in landscape mode on the iTouch I can honestly say my Blackberry's keyboard smokes it. Granted it took me a moment to adapt to that but you cannot beat a tactile keyboard over a touch screen...Storm or iTouch.

The fact podcasts are directly downloadable is insanely cool, I guess my problem is that you can't delete them from the touch when finished right? I guess if you download a new episode it supplants the previous one?

Actually he might be better served to upgrade to a Blackberry Storm if all he wants is a portable browser. The Storm's screen (though I haven't used one) is probably comparable I would imagine and with the Storm (plus data plan) he would have access to the web everywhere, not just through wifi.

I tried the Storm, it sucks. Great screen but unfortunately they squished the wonderful Blackberry interface that wasn't intended for a touch device INTO a touch device. I also don't like the screen clicking BS either. The browser isn't as nice as Safari on iTouch. Right now the browser is one of the big things RIM (The creators of Blackberry) really need to work on and overhaul.

Now like I said in some other thread, I have no problem with the whole wifi thing because mainly when I'm on this Touch looking at the net I'm either here in my house or I'm able to latch on to an open wifi network. I personally can't justify the cost of the data plan (one year worth of that data plan alone would actually buy the 32gb Ipod Touch by itself), but Chris may need to constantly be plugged into the web for his job or something.

I don't need to be online all the time but I love the fact I can pop up anything (Email beeps the moment it arrives), anywhere I am plus it's great for keeping in touch with the wife too.

The Blackberry messenger is nice as well, built in always on/live chat...So far I have my wife and Alex on it.

I will say though, I love the free apps that are customized specially for some of my most visited sites. Those don't use the browser at all, they sit on the Touch's "desktop" like bookmarks. Ah, to have a Monroeworld "App".....HAHAHA.

I wish I had that NOW. I've seen it done for other forums. Very cool, but this place already looks lovely by default on the iTouch (Pretty disjointed on the Blackberry) so it's not even a problem.

I could literally set up a que of podcasts at evening and have them all downloaded in the morning. When I'm done, I can delete them if I want. You learn something new everyday right? This doesn't work with music though, does it? I've tried a few times and I can't get it to work. I can get it with videos and podcasts.

I assume it handles similar to the iPhone I played with yesterday? The iTouch is basically an iPhone without the phone right?

I don't get a touch because I use my iPod for disk access sometimes and the price of them over here is way too high.
