    Optical drives and how many?

As I was putting a new video card in my machine and a new SATA DVD burner I realized that I don't really need to have my DVD rom drive in there any more. I was possibly thinking about picking up a Blue Ray reader bit I am not sure that I would even use it.

How many of you are running one drive?

I have a basic DVD-ROM drive (minimum) in all my machines (sans my Eee PC of course) - if NOTHING else for reinstalling the OS.

But yeah -- but let's be real -- chances are, most people would never use it regularly.

I don't see a need for two drives either, unless you're a bit lazy and want to leave a disc in each one. Some people might use it for copying one disc directly to another, but I'd rather just rip one to the hard drive and then put in a blank. It's not as if space is a big problem these days.

However, if the BD-ROM drive is just a reader, that could be useful paired with a DVD writer, if you'll actually be using BDs of course (just movies as of now). I'm probably going to just wait for a drive that reads BDs and writes DVDs to become affordable though, before getting a BD reader. A BD writer would be even better, but that may be too expensive and I have to wait for the cost of the media to come down anyway.

True. The only reason I still use my DVD drives is for installing games, and the games that require you to have a disc in.

Everything else is done on flash memory for me. Its just much more easier to handle around. I keep a 1GB and a 2GB with me at all times, and between those two, I can keep everything I need on the go.

Although you may want to check NewEgg or Fry's for a BR Drive, if you really want one.

Yeah it's funny, when I built my current PC just over a year ago it seemed weird not having a old floppy drive in it LOL! My PC does have 2 DVD drives but only becuase when I built this system I still had an excellent BenQ drive left over from my last PC, figured I might as well add it, it's not necessary but in case I ever need a back up it's there...............
