Wii Minute Radio - September 2008 Show is here!

Wii Minute Radio - September 2008 Show 1x06 should be hitting your RSS readers, iTunes, and Zune Marketplace at any moment. The show is also ready for direct download at the website and the latest episode has been loaded on our Wii Opera Browser friendly site. More info at www.wiiminuteradio.com.

This month it's "review games who's titles end in exclamation points" month! We've got reviews of Order Up! the Cooking Mama inspired restaurant sim game from Zoo games and We Love Golf! developed by Camelot and published by Capcom. We'll cover the flood of Wii games released in September as well as what's headed for store shelves in October, and I'll tell you about a great new free online RPG you can play using your Wii's Opera Browser.

The show is a little shorter than usual at about 33 minutes--thank Hurricane Ike for that, my day job has been a madhouse in the weeks after the storm. But I wanted to make sure and get the show out this month, so I hope you all enjoy it! And with the show out of the way, I'm looking forward to some great game sessions over the next few days with De Blob, Lost In Blue, and Samba De Amigo all calling my name while I rip through Wario Land: Shake It!

    See ya in October!

Great show - I had no idea Order Up was more than a low-budget Cooking Mama-ripoff minigame fest. Sounds like a pretty fun game - thanks for the review!

Awesome dude. Can't wait to listen to this one.

hey, I'm curious, do you buy every game you review (even the crap )? You must have one heck of a collection, man .

Unless you got Nintendo to send you review titles, that would rock.

One thing I think I forgot to mention in the review--the tutorial is horrible. Not that it doesn't do a good job of showing you the basics of the game (it does), but because the tutorial focuses on just the cooking part and not the restaurant management elements, so if you go by the tutorial (which takes place in a fast food joint) it's pretty much just like Cooking Mama and nothing more. When you finish the tutorial and get your first restaurant (the diner), the real fun begins.

Yup, I own (or have owned) the games I've covered on the show and though I recently started trading some game back to Gamestop, I still have a ton of Wii games--more than 100 for sure, but I really need to get caught up on my collection at the dsr site to be sure hehe. I had to move them to another shelf since the collection outgrew the one I was previously keeping them on. I started trading in a few I'm sure I'll never play again to make space and to help pay for new games. Yeah, free review titles would be awesome, but I'm not holding my breath on that one hehehe.

I used to rent games a lot, but haven't rented for a while since the backlog of games waiting to be played or finished has started to accumulate, including a handful for 360. Tales of Vesperia, Infinite Undiscovery, and Civilization Revolution are all on deck waiting for a gap in between good Wii releases that doesn't seem to be coming any time soon.

One thing I wished you had touched on in the review was how well do the controls actually work? Do they make sense in the context of what you're doing (i.e. do they match the actions on-screen)? Are they responsive and accurate?

Great point--and I think that one of the reasons it didn't occur to me to cover it was because they are pretty much what you'd expect in terms of gestures. That is to say they aren't hit or miss like those of the last Harry Potter game or even the celestial brush from Okami where you had to get it "just right" or you fail. None of that kind of frustration, which would kill the experience.

They are just as tight as Cooking Mama's were, and the more complex dishes scale up in difficulty based more on memorization and reflexes rather than pinpoint accuracy. As a counterpoint to the "easy" gestures, the real challenge comes from the multitasking where you'll have to decide how to distribute the workload and in what order to do things so that each dish is prepared in the highest rating possible while still hot and on time when you serve it.

Great. Just when my freaking hard drive fails, WMR comes out with another show.

I'm going to be SO FAR BEHIND when I get my comp back up & running as of (hopefully) Thursday.

When all else fails, listen to the show on your Wii! The sound quality is lower, but it works like a charm hehehe.

Surprisingly, over 50 people actually listen to the show that way each month and the number keeps growing with each new show.

Great show, thanks for the reviews! I have zero interest in We Play Golf, sounds like more trouble than its worth. I'll snatch Order Up, er, "up" when the price drops.
