    New guy to homebrew

    Guys,

I bought the cd of old DSR radio shows and have heard a lot about mod cards. The problem is I have heard about so many cards (over 70 hours of radio shows--plug plug--on one cd) I am not sure what is the latest and greatest to buy.

Primary interest is in playing backups of my DS games.
I am looking for something easy to use.
I am looking for the most memory/ease of use/functional product(s). Money is not a concern (at least in this case-- )
Do I need any special card readers on my computer?

I apologize if I shouldnt ask this but, for reference, when I do google and find a backup of the DS games I own (23), will I find one file or multiple files? I am just trying to visualize how the process works.

Thank you in advance for the help!

    Chad

    Cyclo Evolution.

Micro SD/SD card reader slot on the PC, internal or USB.

Buy it here if you are in the US and want great service.

And thank you for your patronage...

    I second this.

The CycloDS Evo is hands down THE card to get if price is not a major concern. It has great compatibility, features, and incredible support from their forums. I reccomend you pick up a 4gb A-DATA microSDHC card from Newegg, judging by the number of games you intend to back up, 4gb will easily hold all the games you own, plus have tons of room for media and homebrew.

    Thanks...

Based on both of your recommendations, it appears the card you are recommending has surpassed the R4 card Shane was talking about on the shows?

    Thans guys,

Dude...We are WELL beyond the R4 at this point. Most of those shows were from 2006 and early 2007.

Heck, Shane is on the beta team for the Cyclo Evolution and proud preacher/sponsor of it. lol

You can obtain your ROM images a couple of different ways. Possibly the most morally correct (although still illegal) is to dump them yourself off your own carts.

    Here is a complete tutorial:

The other way is to "obtain" them via the internet (we won't discuss how or where - but they are available if you know how to look).

    Thanks for listening too!

Another vote for the cyclo ds, it's got sd hc support, for large memory sizes. So you could put in a 6gb (what i use) card an have plenty of extra room for homebrew mp3 gba, gb stuff an not have to worry about taking anything off anytime soon.

It also has moonshell built in that run mp3s (handy for listning to the latest rgr or dsr. an full skin support for changing the look.

Also alot of updates have been released so far for it, i'm very impressed with the new beta firmware that just got released.

If you use an sdhc card you will need an sdhc reader, mine didn't come with one but i got one free when i brought my 6gig sandisk, look around some deals include one with it.

There is a way to dump your own carts onto the card as well so that if you dont want to lose your save games.

    Guys,

Thank you for all the help. I clicked on the link for the cyclos site but they are out of white. I will wait a few days.

On my computer I have a "SD/MMC/SM/MS/MS-Pro" Slot (Emachine). Does that cover the sdhc requirement or do I buy a usb plug in SDHC reader? If I need to buy one, any recommendations?

Thanks again..I hope to be a contributor in the future rather than just asking questions.

Out of the truth is stranger than fiction dept, I just flew home from a business trip to Switzerland. I noticed this German guy--who was one row over and up from me--booted his DS and started selecting games from a menu. After craning my neck a bit and watching what he did, I saw he had a cyclos DS cart. So I got to see a demo of sorts. I tried to ask him about it but he didnt speak english and probably thought I was going to bust him. Very cool and then I log in to see that the cyclos DS cart is the way to go.

    Thanks!

It may or it may not. Although if you want to make ABSOLUTE sure, pick up one of these:
    http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.12130

Its dirt cheap and gets shipped for free. It'll take about 2 weeks to get to your doorstep, so I suggest you order now, and then order your Cyclo later, and hopefully they arrive at around the same time.

    Thanks Phantom,

Looks good. From what I gather, it plugs into a USB port and then you load the SDHC into it (the end with the rope)

Also, looked at the vendor selling the Cyclos. I can add on a memory card (8gb $81, 4gb $53). Are those good prices? I note, depending on the size, the manufacturer differs. Does that really make a difference?

By the way, does the Cyclos DS card stick out or is it flush?
    Thanks!
