GTA4 = Best game since Ocarina of Time

So are they saying that GTA4 is better than everything that came out since 1998. Do you know that even by visiting IGN you are contributing to the stupidity of the nation? Stop providing giving them traffic.

I own this game. Got it from Game UK.

In my opinion this is a 7.5 max for me. Good, but not great. The statement "Best game since Ocarine of Time" is invalid for me. I do feel let down by many of the game journalists. Not that I based my purchase on online reviews... 10/10 for a graphical score? Did they play the game... Very iffy framerate. Even C64/Amiga game journilists would knock a point or so off for that...

This isn't the worst game I’ve purchased that crown (for me) goes to "Rise of the Robots" for the Commodore Amiga. I nearly cried it was soooo bad. The only thing I liked about it was the box art.

edit: I’ve still to progress further into the game so my opinion may change, but i'm enjoying it to an extent...

So I got a copy of GTAIV, call it the hype or whatever, I had to see what all the craziness was about. Just as I figured, I'm not impressed. I've spent a good 2 or 3 hours this weekend, and this game is kind of boring. Too many cutscenes take me out of the game. The controls, I think are horrific. Nico is difficult to control, driving in this game just sucks ass. The city overall is quite impressive, but the game has a "sims" feel to it, where you're constantly forced to perform these goofy tasks. Pick this guy up, drive this guy there, take the girl bowling, etc. etc. etc.

At some point I think, I hope, the game will pick up. If this is what the game is about, I would have given the thing a 5 or 6 tops. Yeah Liberty City is impressive, but who really cares? The game world in Oblivion (which I've been playing recently) is way bigger, and the has a more "open/sandbox" feel than this.

And it's not like you get something for completing these tasks anyways. No cool gun or money or bj from michelle or anything! So who cares? Maybe the point of the game is to just explore the city and do crazy stuff. Well, that gets old too quickly.

I'll never get why this game was ever given a 10, it doesn't deserve a 9. Luckily I didn't have to dish out top dollar for this one. I may keep it for a while and see if it grows on me, but having fun shouldn't be this difficult.

Just my 2 cents.

No one will argue about GTA4 not being "Oscar worthy" at this point because it's been out for more than a few weeks and the drones that are attracted to this type of game have already moved on to whatever the marketers have chosen for them.

We saw it with Halo 3, which was handed "game of the year" before anyone had even played it, and so many others. The "passion" of the core gamer lies with what's next.

I think it's pretty telling that after a brief 3 weeks on the top of Live's "most played game" COD4 is back in 1st place and GTAIV has fallen to 3rd or 4th place...

Seriously.
I can't believe I'm playing a FPS this much. I'm not even good at it, but something has me going back for more and more. The fun + gotta unlock 1 more challenge + one more rank = total enjoyment.
