    RE-WIND, Idea inspired from Shane

I just finished listening to the March 2005 editorial commentary from shane, and it inspired me to start a new page up on my blog site (which isnt crap) lol. I am going to review games that are nearly a decade old or older, to see what affects they have had on the industry in the future and to review them in a way in which I can decipher there lastability rating and its test through age, my first review...Quake, the 1996 windows release.

Good idea and all, but it seems you suffer from the same problem modern day reviewers do.

    For example, Mouse Trap:

    http://www.tblog.com/templates/index...&static=426503

Here you give the game an 8.5 out of 10, yet, you say:

"Would I Recommend This Game, In Todays Market?
No, the graphics are pretty simplistic and does not hold the mass cult status that other games of its genre held. Unfortunately Mouse Trap will only be treasured by the people that grew up on the game and it will still have people wiping the dust off there old systems throughout the years to come just to re-live the nostalgia and try and to try and beat the game. "

Maybe I'm just missing how you got 8.5 if you cannot recommend the game? Just because the graphics are not as good as today's games, doesn't mean people won't enjoy them today.

If you are going to say that, then you won't be able to recommend ANY game that is 10+ years old because the graphics aren't up to todays standards.

Personally, I think "Numeric" ratings of games is a dumb idea anyway. I have one simple rating for games. Is it fun, or is it not fun. Better graphics and better sound just add to the "Cool" factor for me, but they don't make the game any more or less fun. In fact, sometimes too good of graphics can actually take away from a game.

If they spend more time on graphics then game play, the game is going to suck.

As a side note, this "Mouse Trap" is not the same game as in the Arcade, which was by Exidy. The Arcade "Mouse Trap" was a pac-man style game.

You can see it here on KLOV:

I also believe that the Atari 2600 and Intellivision are ports of the Arcade version and not of the game you reviewed.

I learned from the foolish mistakes that I used to make so when I review games generaly now I either tell poeple to either buy, rent or aviod.... after all my reviews are a reflection of my personal opinion which really can not be messured by a mere number! :P

Lets get things clear its a downgrade from its original rating. Would I recommend it to todays market, no because they dont know how to appreciate it mate. Its not detracting that its a good game, im trying to offer the games rating on the broad that the generation gimmie dont read my reviews which on the average they dont. A detraction from there release rating shows significance that it hasnt lived up to todays age...mouse trap is a good game but, would not have me hooked but considering that i tend to play it now and then to see what the new levels look like means something. My review of Stunt car racer is more refined. I know ratings are sketchy but we are in an infrastructure where ratings are used world wide in the publication field.
