BBS: The Documentary - NOW SHIPPING

Not retrogaming but certainly retro, I thought some of you might get a kick out of this. Jason Scott's (of textfiles.com) BBS: The Documentary looks like its pretty close to release, after a long delay. One of the first things I did when I first got a computer was hijack the phone number to the Merit system from my junior high school. Once I discovered the 313 BBS list I was tying up the phone line every night. I can't wait to see this.

EDIT: Updated to reflect that this is now shipping 5/24

Cool. I used those in the early 80s. You'd call up someone's house that was connected to an Apple II, and post messages and text files. I dont remember all the details exactly, so it'll be interesting to watch that.

I ran a large Amiga BBS myself (Tombstone BBS). Great fun!

Ah the good ol' days of staying up all night logged-on to Starship Amiga - downloading only ONE image file during the entire session....

    *sigh*

I miss those online days BEFORE the internet...before EVERYBODY was online...but I DON'T miss the "speed."
A THRILLING battle! More EXCITING than ever!

Heh, I was a moderator at Starship Amiga ... life was good. No one will ever need more than 2400 baud!

Ah, I remember frequenting a BBS or two back in the 8-bit days with the Atari 800XL. That was fun.

1984- got the Compuserve/300 baud VICmodem for my birthday.
1985- my highschool fired up a BBS.
1985 and 10 minutes later- got busted for posting a NIGEL LUVZ ANGIE banner on the startup screen.

I may have to get the DVD set. That was a fun time for me.

About 2 years ago I found a BBS still operating in the area. There was still a faithful group of users playing games, swapping files and playing games(?).

And was every other BBS named Starship (insert local town/school/etc)? Was that some kind of requirement??

I enjoyed BBS door games like Trade Wars and Legend of the Red Dragon very much.
