    Too many fonts cause problems?

Well, I'm back up and running, more or less. I needed some fonts that I forgot to backup, so I found this file that had 12,000 fonts (I know, what do you need with 12,000). I'm actually slowly getting rid of the stupid ones.

It's weird. It takes a bit long for windows to load up. Would having all those fonts slow things down?

You bet .. affects memory too. All the fonts get cached in RAM.

Fonts are a luxury I can do without. I add them singly as I need them.

I did that too in the beginning. If I saw a font that looked cool, I downloaded it, free. I found a font collection with 12,000 fonts, and thought what harm could it do? Now I know.

I deleted a large chunk of em. I'm down to about 700 or so. I hardly have time to weed through them and delete them one at a time, but at least my computer doesn't run slow or crash anymore.

    Thanks!

Well if you don't have 2 gigs of memory, you could at least upgrade to that amount. Seeing as how you have a need for extra fonts.

I'd obtain a listing of XP DEFAULT Font's as included with a normal install than just delete the rest...............just my 2 cents......

I posted about a similar problem 2 years ago. Be careful. I ended up deleting one default font and had to put up with large black text in my programs.
