I finally got my PSP modded.

Paid a guy $30 to take it to 3.71 M33-2.

And I'm mightily impressed, I wish I'd done this a year ago. I'm playing Kula World, Ridge Racer, Syphon Filter, Driver 2, Crash Bandicoot 3, Duke Nukem Time to Kill, Gran Turismo (!) and a bunch of others.

It's stable and works just like the machine I had before I got it modded.

I found a bunch of converted PS1 games in the usual places, and thanks to my 4gb card I can fit heaps of them on (esp' if they've been well squashed).

Great great stuff, I recommend this to anyone yet to take the plunge.

Just do what I did and get an expert to do it for you.

Disclaimer: it's not till you play PS1 games that you realise how difficult it is to hit diagonals on the PSP pad. If you're a fighter fan, forget it.

Plus watch your battery life extend.
Sad that Sony cant make this an option and use all that is good in the PSP.
Rather than locking it down.

You can get the software around to also make your own PS1 games to work. It is pretty sweet.

When the 8GB mem sticks drop in price it will make it really nice to use. There is a lot of good emulators out for it also so check into that. Most run pretty decent.

Course all it is, is put one of the many pre-made installation packages freely available all over the web onto your mem card. Run it. And voila. It's done in about 2-3 minutes. No fuss no muss. (But ok so yeah, add an additional 3-4 minutes if the psp needs downgrading beforehand.)

But still, charging 30 bucks for such a menial simple short task.... I wonder how much he charges for putting mp3's on an ipod.

Ok expert, I looked around for someone that would do it for me, but don't even know anyone with a PSP.

For the $30 I also got 10 PS1 games... yes I know I can get them free too. As I have done since yesterday.

And I know I could have done it myself, but it's only $30... And yes it needed downgrading. And I don't have a PC, I have a mac. Not sure if that makes any difference or not.

Either way, I'm extremely happy with the thing now.

Maybe you should charge?

If you have a Slim, don't you need another modded PSP in order mod it?

I believe so, you need to use one of those pandora batteries, and a memstick with the pandora software, which can only be made with an already flashed for homebrew psp.

If he needs a downgrade done first it isn't quite as easy as just putting something on a mem card as you make it sound. Plus if you have never done it before you might not want to risk it yourself.

I probably wouldn't charge, but then again, unless it was a really good friend I wouldn't do it as I wouldn't want to replace it if I bricked it. It doesn't happen that often but there is always the chance.

What's really amusing is that I'm a total Gran Turismo fanboy. Always have been. If I ever get a PS3 it'll be to play GT (and GTA)

And yet here I'm playing the first iteration on a teeny screen with digital controls and loving it even more than GT4....

Didn't expect that at all!

I'm having fun trawling through the back catalog to see what works and what doesn't.

Kula World, as expected, is sublime.

Next stop is Grand Theft Auto: London.

it's really cool that you're having fun. and even cooler that you're doing it on the old school version

old school ftw!

even though the library is improving I still say the PSP isn't worth it unless you mod it so you can play homebrew and PS1 games

If I ever get a PSP it'll be because I want to be able to play Symphony of the night on the go.
