    A Killer App

Is there any sign of a killer app that will be the push I need to buy a Wii?
Existing games sound okay but nothing unmissible (or maybe someone would say Paper Mario or Zelda are particularly special).
As far as forthcoming games: Galaxies is said to be cool (but a descendent of Geometry Wars from another platform ), Manhunt 2 has so much attention that they've made it illegal here in the UK
Perhaps MPH3 will be something special, but I got bored of FPS about 9 years ago.
Maybe the killer app for me would involve the Wii interacting with the DS (like the PS3 DVR/PVR does with the PSP), as was suggested for future games.

If I don't get won over and buy a Wii soon, I'll buy a hi-def TV and then will think a 360 or PS3 would be the only way to go. It would probably be a PS3 since I can't stomach the idea of having to pay for online membership.

Believe it or not, Wii Sports (you know, that comes as a pack in) *IS* the killer app. Bowling alone is a killer app.

Seriously. There is simply NO WAY to match Wii Sports bowling on ANY system. It's that good, that original, and that innovative in control.

Maybe our definitions don't mesh up.

What would you consider a "killer app" for another system?

You have to put your hands on a Wii to understand. I know that sounds like a cop out, but take it for a ride. When you bowl and the ball actually has a backspin because your arm threw it that way - you HAVE to be amazed.

There are tons of other great games. Don't let Tally get to you.

I would add that the 360 and the PS3 do not have a killer app so I really don't understand why someone would only demand a killer app from the Wii. I seriously doubt that a person who makes statements like the thread starter would ever be happy with the Wii. If you don't like it don't buy it. Lots of other people will. Your loss really.

I also agree that Wii Sports is the killer app. Best pack in ever since Tetris with the gameboy. PS3 has no killer app in sight what so ever. 360 on the other hand will get one when RE5 comes out. I guess Live could be considered a killer app too.

I bought an Atari 2600 for Space Invaders.
Sonic was the reason I bought a Sega Megadrive.
I didn't get the PS1 for any particular game (I was probably just treating myself after getting my PhD) but Final Fantasy VII was certainly worth buying the console for.
I can't remember what inspired me to get a PS2 (I was probably just treating myself after getting my MSc), but I think GTA San Andreas alone was worth buying it for.
Advanced Wars was probably the thing I looked forward to on the DS, but I think that DSR was what finally persuaded me to get the DS over the PSP (thanks).
Given a choice of 3 consoles, I think that games would play a huge part in the choice. Given my history of GTA I should choose the 360 or the PS3, for Final Fantasy I should choose the PS3.
The 360 appears to have big developer focus, and anything that can do, the PS3 can handle - whereas the lower-spec Nintendo systems suffer when they try and release a title cross-platform (as we saw with Spiderman3 on these consoles or most cross-platform titles that get a DS release); so I'd probably be right to look for a special Wii-exclusive titles.
Don't get me wrong - I'd love for an excuse to buy a Wii (I've run out of qualifications to achieve to justify buying myself another console).

Hmmm.... am I the only one who thinks it's sad that the killer app for the Wii Sports?
This game's in the refrigerator: the door is closed, the lights are out, the eggs are cooling, the butter's getting hard, and the Jell-O's jigglin'! - chadfx.com

That is true but I wouldn't have bought my Wii just for Wii Sports.

RE 4 was an amazing game. After playing it, I would like Capcom to bring RE 5 too Wii.
Corruption is great, not a lot to be said. It is just plainly amazing.
Super Paper Mario is decent. I would rent first.
Excite Truck is fun in small bursts, it is one of those games you can beat in one night.
Cooking Mama is a good game to get your wife/girlfriend to get playing, pretty simple yet fun.

No more sad then people saying a GTA or a Final Fantasy will be killer apps for a 360 or a PS3. At least the Wii has a game worthy of being called a killer app and it comes with the system at no extra charge. Reminds me of the old days.

I really don't think the games that are coming for the bleeding edge systems are as great as some people seem to think. I love how we keep hearing wait until next holiday or next year. The PS3 will rock then. I like to live in the here and now when playing and talking about games.

Killer apps aren't games you finish in 25 hours and then trade in at Gamestop.

Killer apps are something you play - days, weeks, months ... yes, dare I say it ... YEARS after the fact.

To me, the one major Killer Wii app isn't out yet.. not until December 3rd that is...
I am talking about Super Smash Bros. Brawl (this is to me the second coming of Christ haha)!!!!

Despite this, Wii bowling is simply the bomb.. Paper Mario's a great game for anyone.. and Metroid Prime 3 which I haven't played yet also looks awesome..
Don't forget the amazing yet admittedly easy Zelda Twilight Princess on Wii..
And of course if you never had a Gamecube, be sure to check out the Gamecube's killer apps... such as Super Smash Bros. Melee ;-)
