    Finally got a GP2x

Well I got a first edition GP2X. I had been wanting a GP2X for awhile and I am very impressed withery difficult it. I expected the joystick to be flimsy, but it really has a sturdy feel to it. There is a little issue with hitting diagonals as everyone has bemoaned. I really don't see it as that bad. A lot of games don't require ultraprecision. I played Ms Pacman and did pretty well. I know a lot of people wish the GP2X had a dpad. Using a dpad with maze games like Ms Pacman is very difficult IMHO. I think if the GP2X had a dpad it would be better for durability's sake, however I have to say overall I really like the little joystick. It would be nice if on the menu you could choose 4 or 8 way.
There are a few issues like batteries. Yes it would have been much nicer to me if it had LION internally. This is certainly a high drain device that could use such a battery. I probably just need to get a better charger. The emulators are fantastic and the device is just so easy to use. there are some first edition issues such as a horizontal line on my screen. The thing is it's not noticeable on most screens. Also I like the scan line look of the screen. As I have heard others point out it looks more authentic and I agree. Anyway to me this thing is a miracle in what it can do. Being a first edition it overclocks stable to about 280 mhz. Is 280 mhz rare for mk II's? Even with the shoulda coulda-woulda's I very pleased with this system

Mine will only OC to about 260 ...

Get yourself a nice set of 2400+mAh rated AA rechargable niMh batteries and a 15 minute charger. Batteries will no longer be a big issue.

Bought a 15 minute charger today. It was $31 and included 4 batteries. A little expensive but it sure does the job. This thing tells if a battery is bad by the light flashing right after inserting a battery. It also comes with the car adapter. I have'nt tested the bateries much but I did play on a set for an hour.
With a good set of batteries I bravely updated my firmware to 3.0.0. The process was not the horror story a lot of people have reported. I have read some post that say it takes an hour. I never timed it exactly but it seemed to take only about 10 minutes. The new menu is a little slicker than the 2.0.0 menu that was present before.
