    Link Art

I know it's about the most pointless thing you can post, but I'm a decnet artist and decided to draw a picture of Link for the upcoming Zelda:Phantom Hourglass and the newly released one in Japan. Also, I'm 13 so it isn't gonna be perfect. So, here it is:

    It sux.

But seriously you're off to a good start. If this is from just looking at a screen or print, then you've done a great job getting the symmetry down. Be sure to get a book on human anatomy to practice more.

    Keep drawing.

Thanks guys actually I drew this and chucked it into the scaner. So it does look a little iffy but I'll try harder!

Its a pretty decent attempt. I thought some parts were drawn nicely and some others "ehhh.. a little off".
I usually don't suggest this (to many it may seem like bad practice) but this might greatly help you.
Before coloring in your sketch trace over your own sketch(with a separate piece of paper). When you start tracing your own artwork line for line and sometime during the tracing process or when you take a step back and look you will start to notice small mistakes or sense that something doesn't make sense (of what you are drawing). I find it is a good technique for learning when to curve your lines, minimize chicken scratches, and deal with proportions and placement.

It sucks being in Generation Gimmie, and you don't act like on of them It make you look creepy in their eyes. But good in all others eyes. It definitly sucks.

I'll definitly try your tips, Daidojih. They seems real helpful and will probertly make my art much neater so, thanks!

Did you have a reference picture to draw from?

Regardless, I think it looks great. When you get into high school I hope you will take art classes to improve your skills. Before studying Anatomy, your introduction art classes should teach you the tricks of drawing human beings. The way I learned was grid drawing after grid drawing and using drawing models.

    Good work, keep it up.

Hey Born, try this out...Its fun stuff.

I remember when I was 18 or so I was offered an internship with the budding (At the time) Valiant Comics (Turok etc before Acclaim bought them) but I wasn't going to NY to do it. GACK. IMO you don't really "Learn" to draw, I don't think its a gained attribute but something you are born with. I attune it more to being a mental thing because generally the drawing is 90% in your brain and you are simply using that 10% of coordination in your hand to put the image onto paper. You can get books and even go to school to learn technical things to fine tune and empower you but all in all you can't take the average Joe on the street who couldn't draw a stick figure for the life of him and expect a masterpiece out of him just by taking some courses at a local community college. Its missing the point anyway.

Just keep practicing...Although IMO you should try to so your OWN stuff and not copy from existing work. When I say own, I mean try developing your own ideas, characters, concepts etc because then you can easily find your own sense of style to your art rather than just being a copy of someone elses.

At the very least if you need a reference and want to draw say Link, take an original picture of him such as the one you based that drawing on, then draw him in your own pose or situation rather than carbon copying the same picture.

I don't use any technical means when I draw outside of keeping things more or less symmetrical when necessary...Just let it flow naturally.

You also may want to practice starting with B&W's (My personal favorite) rather than using color right away and work on shadows and lighting...

CAN DO, SIR! I think might use that program. But I inherited my art ability from my Grandpa. He's a natural artist and is spectular with watercolors. He also tells me to do the same things. So I'll try my best.
