Heh, I was just listening to the original Castlevania review last night. Loved the part about gettin head from a medusa.

Also listened to the 8-bit review of Mega Man. Yes, there are halfway points, but eh, doesn't make a difference now.

Shane, speaking of Bryan....what do you think he would think of the Wii and DS?

Honestly, I don't know. I would like to think he was in favor, but I honestly don't know.

NES Castlevania rocked....Hard as hell though. It was in the first batch of games I received with my NES back in Christmas '86 along with SMB (Packed in with the system), Gradius, Kid Icarus, Zelda and Metroid.

That was a fun week of gaming before I went back to school.

I dunno why, but I picked Kung Fu when I got my NES. I originally chose it over the original Zelda.

It's always fun listening to Shane and Bryan do the 8-bit and 16-bit Flashbacks together.

I think it'd be cool at CGE to bring a laptop that has a few 8-bit or 16-bit titles, and do some Flashback segments with a handful of the forum members. Not too many, it'll get nuts. Maybe Shane, Troy and like 2 or 3 forum members can just kick back and review a game.

It's something different to do at CGE, I never said that you people would LIKE the idea, but I'd pay to see that.

Did you pick up Castlevania on the VC?

Damn, that's one hell of a Christmas! I didn't jump on the NES bandwagon until Christmas 1990 and that was amazing considering my father was contracted with Nintendo.

Awww LOL, almost forgot about the "abra-ka-pocus Bugs Bunny" reference in the Castlevania review.

Heck no...Between the original cart, emulation and ports over the years I'm burnt out on it.

I only have about 4 VC titles: Zelda (Which makes me hypocritical for my Castlevania remarks since I can play it in 20 billion places as well), Punch-Out, Soldier Blade and Alien Crush.

In any case, oh it it was a great Christmas although at the time I wasn't sold on the NES right away since I was in C64 land and still was afterwards. NES felt like a downgrade to me. But before Christmas JCPenney had the NES stuff all dirt cheap even though it was brand new, they had gotten it in the store and I guess decided not to carry it or something. All I know is the stuff was like 50% less than retail price, remember this was *1986* and I don't even think the NES had been out for a year yet. My mother, not ignoring a sale, asked if I was interested in any of it...Looking at the boxes I was enticed by the box art which is something I knew better not to go on based upon certain US GOLD/Mindscrape C64 titles but I said "Sure...Ok...". The games were marked down to $19.95 and she told me to pick out 5 of them and well, those were the ones that looked the most interesting to me. Gradius which seeing the "Over 1 Million sold in Japan!" blurb may have won me over and Castlevania as well, Konami's box art back then was amazing. So she bought it all, put it in a big shopping bag...And put it away in a closet a couple months until Christmas.

Unfortunately later on this whole "WOW the box looks awesome!" mantra was a bad thing to go on when it came to titles such as Section-Z. I should have learned my lession from the C64. It was a common method in the C64 days for companies to put arcade screen shots on backs of boxes which you KNEW weren't legit so sometimes you needed to use your gut instincts in what you were likely to get for arcade ports.

Anyway that entire week from Christmas to New Years off from school was a huge Zelda week for me and I had it beaten by the time I went back. Such a blast and its in my top 10 games of all time, it and SMB sold me on the NES.

I used to love when this stuff was all new and I'd get my Nintendo Fun Club newsletters full of maps and crap.

By Christmas 1989 though I was in Genesis land.
