The 3DS - the camera

Rate this Entry
Ah, the 3DS. What can I say? There are many things to say about it. First of all I guess I can start with the camera aspect of the 3ds. When you take pictures, you can use the 3d slider to take pictures in 3d view or in 2d. You can use the trigger buttons (L or R) buttons to take pictures. All pictures are stored in the DCIM directory of the SD card. It can be viewed on your PC. The other neat feature about the camera you can take picture in front you facing the 3ds (but that is a single camera can only take in 2d will the cover camers there are 2 of them can take pictures in 3d. All 3 cameras have zoom in/out and a timer function for taking pictures. The 3ds is almost a full-fledge digital camera except its missing a flash.

To access the camera on the 3ds simply press the Home button at the bottom and press the camera icon

Not sure. I never owned a DSi just DS Phat. You will have to make the call. The pictures are in jpg format with resolution of 640x480.

Nintendo recommends adequate light when taking pictures because it lacks a flash.

I believe the 3ds can make video possibly in 2d and 3d but they didn't include that software in its current firmware. Just like the Wii firmware never had DVD playback even though the hardware can support it.

One thing I should mention about the camera is that you can't take an ordinary jpg image and save it to the sd card and expect the 3ds to view it. The photo program generates a MPO file much like in windows thumb.db which previews the photo. The other thing I would like to mention is that the 3ds takes 2d photos but the slider can change the photo to stereoscopic 3d image. Next part in the 3ds series. I will discuss the 3ds layout
