Launch RGR+ Radio Station
  • E3 2010: Kirby's Epic Yarn (Wii)

    Features:

    • The look of the world is stunning, but it’s also interactive. Pulling on stray threads might reveal hidden areas. When Kirby literally goes behind the scenes, the virtual fabric warps and bends to show his location.
    • Thanks to his versatile yarn composition, Kirby can take on a variety of forms both in his common actions and when he transforms into powerful vehicles. When Kirby dashes, he zips around as a car. In water, he turns into a submarine. At times he can even transform into a massive robotic tank, a UFO and other vehicles.
    • Two players can play through the entire game together*.
    • Gems and collectible items are scattered throughout the environments for players to find.

By far, my favorite Wii game in E3. It looks unbelievable!

Also, it appears to be a fresh concept. I wanna play it now!

Yeah, add that to the fact that Fall TV season is happening at the same time. Plus the summer blockbusters now being released on disc.

Oh and wait, I also have a wife that needs attention, LOL.

Kirby scores a starling review at IGN. I didn't know the game had 2-player co-op! Sweet!

Oh, and you can't die, so it's good for a casual romp but it doesn't sound very challenging.

It's a game for perfectionists ... getting every single item on the level with no mistakes ... or you can just barrel through it and enjoy the scenery.

Now, come on guys... let's hear all about the media's obvious bias against Nintendo

How many first party Nintendo games get anything BUT glowing reviews?

Game Informer just have Wii Party a 4.5 - and it seems "ok" to blast that title for some reason; everyone is getting into it.

But, look at non-Nintendo first party titles...

Kirby is a great game ... it's actually deserving of it's praise.

Yes but remember Giantbomb is not a sellout. They're OK in our books, remember?

Hey, Alex Navarro from Screened.com reviewed the game? What a pleasant surprise.

Exactly--I have no problems with those dudes, I think they do a nice job.

But to Worknman's point, I think Epic Yarn has been well received throughout the usual game sites--I haven't seen it unfairly trashed yet. Even so, to use this one example as proof that game journalists don't have a thorn up their asses when it comes to Nintendo is a bit of a stretch. For every Kirby's Epic Yarn or Super Mario Galaxy there are dozens of other games that never got a fair shot (or thorough playthrough for that matter) from industry sponsored game sites.

I was walking past the TV room and noticed my kids (5 and 3 years old) jumping with joy and watching the credits roll on Kirby Epic Yarn.

WTF. Can you believe these rascals actually finished a full retail game? They played it from beginning to end, beat the last boss and finished the damn game.

I'm in awe. When I was 5 I was probably still on the bottle... kids these days... sheez.

That's awesome, man--there is greater joy for a kid than conquering a cool game.

I'm trying to find more games that have co-op. Unfortunately, Epic Mickey is single player and it's also a bit too dark.

Maybe Donkey Kong Country Returns? At least if they can't get past a certain part, they can always go autopilot, LOL.

That's what they liked about Kirby, if one of them got stuck behind because she didn't know what to do (the smaller one usually), she could always press A and just float around watching the action .
