It's offical, sony of america hate 2d!!!

I went into town like any other day and found myself wondering the shop floor of my local GAME shop. (GAME being the name of the company)

Out of share impluse I decided to buy Metal Slug 3 on the PS2, yeah yeah I know but Metal Slug 3 is the best in the series because it has multiple route which players can take onthe level plus it has a really cool mode were you control the nameless peon foot soilder of the enimey storming a alien UFO!!!. Also while I was browsing the pre-owned PSX section and I found a copy of guilty gear for £5!!!

*AHEM!!!*

errrr yeah!... Well anyway I got home and decided to play Metal Slug 3 and enjoyed it rather a lot after an hour and a half's wrth of play I decided to go online to find out what info I could find out about this game apart from "it's the best in the series w00t!!!" and what I found was rather distrubing!!

Metal Slug 3 will not be comming out on the PS2 in USA! and the reason for this is because that SONY of USA have blocked it bacuse it was 2d and nobody likes 2d!!!

Now there is another Metal Slug game comming out on the ps2... AND IT'S 3D!!! GAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!

Oh the irony is that Sony have allowed this game to slip the net even though it has non of the orignal charm of the 2d versons and here is the reasons...

A) IT'S 3d!!!
B) Beacuse it's 3d the game has had an Auto Lock-On targeting system introduced to it!!!..... GAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!

They taken the very essence of what made Metal Slug great and took it out, making the game into a generic sub-standard shooting game but if Sony of America only left the freakin 2d verson alone SNK would not of been compled to make this game.

Now this is not fanboy-ism but thank god for the Xbox! SNK have pretty much free reign on that system because M$ know that SNK have a large following of fans which will now have to convert onto there system if they want quality 2d games.

I think it's wrong that companies (and players although it's a matter of taste really) discriminate agsint games that are 2d but I guess at the end ofthe day it's sales that matter and SONY won't make much from a game that is aimed at a small group of die hards I suppose

But it looks like there is light at the end ofthe tunnle for SNK as they have managed to obtain the lisance to publish the game I read on IGN... there is justice inthis world after all lol my bad, I'm still annoyed that SNK had to haggle over this issue though

sorry now thats off my chest what do you guys think?

Don't know about Metal Slug, but I love Gradius V on the PS2. Now that is the right way to do a shooter. Enhance the visuals, but keep that classic old school gameplay.

yeah thats what I'm talking about...

also Irem did it correctly with R-Type final, not only didthey inhance the visuals and kept the gamplay the same they added lots of bonus stuff like being 101 playable ships for the player to collect... good stuff

Danny, I think the reason Sony may have retooled the design to 3D is a reflection of North American tastes rather than a hatred of 2D in principle. Old style shooters are still fairly popular in Asia and Europe, but don't sell worth a hoot here. There were some really great titles in the genre for the old PS1, yet not a single one was a hit in this neck of the woods.
Anybody remember Blood Money and the Killing Game Show on the Amiga? That intro to KGS knocked my socks off.

All early Psygnosis games had stomp ass intros ... Nitro, Awesome ... sigh ...

I miss the old days. Walker had a great intro.

Man ... Psygnosis ... a true legacy lost.

yeah but that's the thing Metal Slug series would sale with neo geo fans because they would be saving themselfs $200 off the Neo-Geo verson and also the PS2 verson is supirior because of the extra gameplay modes added in to the main stream home consoles versons lol

Personaly for me it was no contest even though I'm not a huge fan of the series. The choices were either Spend £200 on a an arcade verson of the game or spend £20 on the home port which is in fact arcade perfect plus better because of those additional gameplay modes lol

What I don't get is why it would matter to Sony if it sold or not. They won't suffer repercussions from the low sales of this game, SNK will. Maybe Sony don't want 2D on its console because it's bad for "image" (which is pretty much what console gaming has been all about since PS1)

I don't get Sony. They do crap like this, and then they turn around and publish games like Ico, Mark of Kri, and Siren. All three of those games sold like crap and yet they're still getting sequels, so its obvious that Sony does have some consideration about games with small fanbases. It's confusing.

It would matter a lot to Sony because more sales lead to more royalties. The better a third party game sells, the more money sony makes. Anyway, Sony has been very well known to stay way from 2D ever since its PS1. They pushed 3D because ultimately that was what the consumer wanted. If it wasnt then the saturn would've been a success :(.
