I have been reading and surfing the net since i bought my DS, my DS should be the oldest on US that isn't imported....u know...when the first selling in US....all sold out and stuff. And im intented to try some home brew. I just need a key to redirect to GBA slot as a NDS slot, then the GBA flash drive will have the file of flashme, then i short the SL1 thing and until it says 100%. Then i can play without the key, but with home brew inside the GBA flash drive? thats all? And if i just want to do the above, what is the best product to purchase:)....thank you....

The Max Media Launcher (MML) is probably your best bet, since you'll probably just use it once -- and it is cheaper. SuperKey is the better card if you plan on using such a device long-term.

Well one way to prevent bricking is never to venture into homebrew :-D..

But yes, flashing will prevent bricking... follow Shane's guide and you'll be set.. There's a link there for the newest flashme..

Yes, that is all you need. I prefer the Mini SD though (smaller):

I have read the website ~ thank you but....i got some question... on this page http://www.monroeworld.com/ds/hacking/update_old.php figure2 it shows something sticking with a DS game card.....so what is that....why do i need an original DS game?? Under my understanding....it seems that is the passme right...then why do we need a game attached to it...? a SuperKey doesn't seem to have that weird look....why?

Because the FIRST generation Passme devices required a game plugged into it.

There are four generations of "passme devices".

1) Passme 1 - Required any DS game inserted into it. Worked on early DSes. There are many types of "passme" devices, including the official Passme (which is what you're seeing pictures of) as well as Superpass 1 and others. Essentially, they are the same thing.
2) Passme 2 - Required programming to a SPECIFIC game (like Metroid Prime Hunters demo) and the game be inserted. This was to get past changes in the security for later DS versions. Note, the Superpass 2 and other similar devices fall into this category, but required YOU, the user, to program them using goofy cables and software on your PC. Screw that. The real Passme2 you ordered ALREADY programmed to a specific game.
3) Passme 3 generation - Think of these as a passme + DS game in one single DS game sized card. Their goal was to eliminate the need for flashing your DS at all by providing a card you could just stick in and access your GBA flash/supercard device. However, this method allows rogue malware "homebrew" (two cases now reported) to trash your DS'es firmware. This includes Passme3, Max Media Launcher, etc. These cards, however, do NOT allow you to use SLEEP mode. If you close your DS, while playing a game off the Supercard, it starts sputtering, clicking, flashing the screen, and your game could hang. it also never goes to sleep, sucking the life out of your battery.
4) Passme "3.5" generation - This is essentially a passme3 with the sleep mode functionality restored. This includes the Superkey and some others.

A fourth generation is promised that will allow you to do all of this, PLUS stick in some sort of microSD card into the DS cart to give you an "all in one" device that doesn't require a GBA flash device at all. I believe the NinjaDS is one such promised product.

so....for my old old old DS i still could get the Passme 3.5 right.... then i will have the bundle....then ignore the metroid demo on your site and continue the procedure~~...then i should be able to flash it thats it?

That's it. They are backward compatible. Passme 3.5's work on ALL (currently) DS models, including the lite.

Just understand the CONCEPT of the passme. Your goal in flashing is to get the DS to execute non-signed, non-Nintendo-Approved Nintendo DS code (flashme.nds). That is really what you're trying to do.

The passme device (regardless of which it is) is soley designed to bypass the security checks that disallow non-signed code and to re-route the boot process from the DS card to the GBA card. HOW you do that is inconsequent to the final goal - which is running flashme.nds. Whatever the device - be it passme1, MML, or Superkey (really, only dictated by how much you want to pay, the secondary features, and of course, what version of the NDS you have) - as long as it boots to the GBA device, it doesn't matter which one you use.

Unfortunately, a LOT of people ended up with the Superpass 2 which is simply a nightmare for people that aren't "1337z0r h4ck3rs" because the thing has to be programmed (although some people report that it comes preprogrammed to work with FEEL THE MAGIC - and if you use that, no programming is necessary) and you HAVE to use a custom version of the IQSRAM (ghey).

Thank GOD we have third generation passmes that no longer require a DS card to work. Makes life a lot easier.

Basically, you're bucking the system, using an OLD DS with NEW passme technology - one of the situations that I have NOT created another tutorial for. :)
