ROFL!!!!! Nice!!! For a second, I thought you went to one of those celebrity voices sites, and paid someone a small fee for that. Maybe I can borrow the "hot wife" for some voice work for VMR's intros and jingles. Is Chris the "jealous and violent" type?? (kidding) ;)

The one you are hearing for the past few shows is version 2 of it as the original was a bit rough. I redid it from scratch with a bunch of imput from Shanestah and was sad to remove those Electroplankton bubbles at the beginning but they had to be cut so as to not bore the audience.
The voice (As my esteemed brother in arms already pointed out) is my wife, she had a ball doing it and got really excited when I asked her to supply the vocals for it. She was very um, experimental on some of the outtakes but basically nailed it by take 2. :)

Just a heads up, but the dreaded iTunes has the episode titled as the 11th of the month which is the same as the last episode.
Not really a problem but I had to change it for uploading to the mirror.

It's possible. Probably do the same as RGR ... keep 6 shows online at a time, everything else gets archived. I do keep deleted stuff and some of it is pretty good.

Shane, you mentioned the DS Lite AC adapter was different than the old DS. From the way you described it, it sounded a lot like the Gameboy Micro AC adapter. I wonder if the Lite and Micro will share the same adapter just like the DS and Advance?

It's been proven that no, this is a brand new adapter, so no sharing it with the Micro.

I stuck this show on my mp3 player, slumped onto my sofa with my ds lite and listened. Great show some parts were pretty damm funny. I got my ds lite earlier this week(i-pod white). I had ordered it in early march from liksang. I have bumped my ds lite around a bit and so far no cracks or scratches have surfaced. I have just ordered some screen protectors and for now I am mainly playing games that I can use the d-pad and buttons for so I dont hurt the screen. Before I got my ds-lite I noticed the lip it had on videos and pictures and that kinda bugged me. But as Shane said once I got my ds lite I totally forgot about it. I plan to sell my original ds to free up some money to buy some more games and accessories. Anyways great show!

I ordered my DS lite today from http://www.gamechoiceclub.com/
I ordered the Enamel Navy. I think I'll keep my old (white) DS so friends can play single cart multiplayer games. The only thing I need now is a AC Power Adapter (since I live in Europe the one that comes with the lite will not work).
the current trade-in for used DS system at GameStop/EB is $50.

Hey Shane and Chris, THANK YOU for putting my questions in there!
BTW, you aren't the first Happy Meals to mispronounce my last name! It's actually an Americanized version of a Swedish name (believe it or not) and it was actually coined by my great-great-great grandfather, Sven Andersson Wanlund, who had to change his name (no joke!) after the postman asked the multiple Sven Anderssons on his mail route to pull straws, and (unfortunately) he lost. So, for the last name, he remembered the Varmlunt mountain range/region in Sweden where he was born, and he decided to Americanize it to Wanlund.
BTW, he actually immigrated from Sweden to Illinois! Strange, but true.
Hey, if anyone from Sweden on here knows about the Varmlunt, I'd truly like to know. I'm attempting to get genealogical data for my family, and the Varmlunt area holds some massive secrets. It may be helpful to know where all my relatives back even farther than my great-great-great grandfather were born, and whether there are any connections at all either here in America or in Sweden. I just want to know for my information, and I am going to have to look for the birth certificates and death certificates in all kinds of different places. It's going to be a really arduous task, trust me. So I need all the help I can get.

I just watched the DS Lite video from the DSR website. It looks very nice. The screens are amazing!
I have to say though, I'm a little bit disappointed; I was actually expecting Shane to talk during the video. I'd have loved that :).
I guess we'll have to supress our desirees for a DSR Videocast. :(

Well, I fall into the "only plays the DS at home category". Sure, I drooled a bit over the clarity of the new screens, but I can't really say I feel that there is anything wrong with my current DS. Unlike some, I really like the buttons and d-pad on the old model, and in my dungeon of an appartment the screens look good enough. So yeah, "not enough" would be a good way to say it.
You know, it didn't doubly click in my mind about Intellivision Lives! DS until the show, i'd been clouded by the sheer drool inspiration of the touchscreen pad, but online multiplayer Intellivision....wow, totally had slipped my mind, the greatest knock against the IL property was that the perceived best games for the system were 2-player only (sports, Sea Battle, *UTOPIA*, man you better not have to stand up after pondering being able to play wireless online handheld utopia ;) ) No wonder that the product is taking quite so long, i assume (and hope) it's for getting wifi online multiplayer functioning and working....Keith Robinson are hosting a Wednesday intellivision/retro nite party of E3 week at the home of All Games Radio at the Arena Lounge in LA (www.e3outpost.com) , and i wonder if he'll have some demos :)

well, like the pc IL packs, the AD&D games will at least be there ('Adventure', 'Minotaur', etc) .
If i remember correctly a long while ago discussion with Keith R (maybe even back like CGE 01 or 02), The Rocks package with Activision/Imagic was part of a deal they made with Activision that allowed Activision to make and publish the intellivision collection on the original PS1, and that limited nature is also why the content of 'Rocks' hasn't been ported.

If I didn't have an original DS I would go for the Lite, or if my DS breaks then my next one will be a Lite. I won't however upgrade. Just not enough reason to.
The supercard looks ugly as hell stuck out there too. Kind of spoils the aesthetic.
New Mini SD out though that fits better.

Hi Shane,
Does your Ice Blue Lite show up finger prints very much? I got the Navy Blue one yesterday and it looked horrible within seconds thanks to the way it attracts greasy finger marks.

Ok, you know, it does attract fingerprints a little more than I first thought. But I just use my PSP's cloth to wipe those babies off. And all is well. It doesn't bother me. I'm sure the White and Ice Blue don't show the prints as badly, of course, but I don't think it is PSP bad.

I finally made it to the end of the show! I listen to it in my shop (it's a game shop so it's kinda cool) but I have to pause while dealing with those pesky customers...Great show. It was interesting listening while playing around with my DS Lite and checking out the site photos - Interactive radio is the future :P
As an aside I was wondering where Shane got his Metroid manclutch thingy mentioned at the end of the show. I love the Metroid series and I love my Lite so I'm pretty tempted by the idea of a Metroid case. Best Buy was mentioned but I can't see anything on their site. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Another superb show. It's amazing how much more information you can get listening to people discussing a product/game. I could read a dozen print articles on the Lite & come away pretty much none the wiser. Whereas after listening to the show, I know everything I need to about the Lite. Great stuff indeed. Without wanting to sound too creepy, I really appreciate the work that Shane & Chris put into DSR & it's made playing the DS more enjoyable, if that makes sense.

Hey Shane and Chris, I need another question answered on the next show. I had to trade in my original DS because my hands are more susceptible to cramping than anyone else. I had to trade in Mario Kart DS AND my DS because my hands kept cramping up, because the buttons were too small. It looks to me like the DS Lite won't have that problem, because the buttons are so huge (an improvement over the original DS to be sure). Is this the case? Shane, I know you can answer this, since you know about the hand cramping issues with subsequent rereleases of the GBA, the Micro, for example. Are large or easily cramp-able hands going to cramp easily with the DS Lite over the original DS?
BJ

Thanks Womp and Shane. I have been without the 'net for a few days (driving me up the wall!) but now I'm back online and have just ordered my very own Man-clutch from Gamestop. The postage was $15 but I'm sure it'll be worth it - if it's good enough for Shane R, it's good enough for me :p
On the DS Lite though, don't you think that the big N missed a trick by not making the GBA slot cover a Rumble Pak?
Shane R. Monroe
04-27-2006, 06:48 AM
That's a good point ... but consider this...
Retail cost of the rumble pak is $10. Let's be clear, the thing is probably $2 to make - BUT ... they aren't making rumble paks in large quantity, so let's say its $4 a hit with low production numbers. Nintendo has never lost money on hardware - so they would HAVE to pass that cost on to you.
Consider that only ONE game REALLY makes GREAT use of the rumble pack (Metroid Prime Pinball ... although Hunters the feature is useful for feeling someone blasing you in the back) and only about 5 games support it at all.
I can see why they would NOT want to pass that on.
On the other hand, a "pak in every pot" would DEFINTELY encourage developers to use it.
The rumble pak should be like any other force feedback - used properly or not at all. MOST games on the DS just don't lend themselves to it (although a missed trick is not having support for it in Mario Kart). No need to use technology 'just because'.
Enjoy your man bag. I hope you like it!
