Just caught this last night. I've always been a Dr. Who fan and thought I'd hate the new ones. I was wrong. I really like what they've done to modernize the show. I can't wait for the DVDs to become available. Check this out.

These debuted on the BBC LAST March in 05 and the wife and I watched them all then as they premiered thanks to the wonderful UK people who capped them and threw them on the newsgroups.

I used to watch the original series as a kid in the early 80's and was always a big fan of it over the years and was also leary when I heard mention of this new series continuation. After watching all 13 episodes, I am worried no more, its in the words of the Doctor "Fantastic!" and beats the hell out of a lot of the crap showing on Sci Fi channel these days. Supposedly they turned DOWN the show last year, the morons.

Anyway, my wife recently bought me the boxed DVD set of the entire series for Valentines Day, its coming out in the US this July but I couldn't wait and she got me it off of Amazon.ca . Meanwhile the next season of episodes commence sometime in April and neither of us can wait to watch them. The first episode which was shown last night is easily the weakest of the bunch, which is good that they played another back to back...while some episodes such as "Dalek" are just really great television. I urge everyone to please give the show a shot and support it, we need more of this stuff stateside.

The last season of Doctor Who was simply fantastic, the BBC really pulled out all the stops, and I think (for that season at least) they had a terrific duo in the form of Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper.

If you are enjoying this series, the new one is, from what I heard also fantastic, though I'm in two minds at this point whether or not David Tennant will make a good or bad 10th Doctor. I saw him in the Christmas Invasion, and he was good, but he didn't appear in a lot of the episode so, we'll just have to wait and see. The BBC are being secretive about the start date of the series, but they've already announced the release of the next Doctor Who dvd which features the Christmas Invasion and New Earth which is the first episode of the new season. They said this DVD will be out on Monday 1st, May, 2006, so not long to go.

How many Dr. Who's have they had since its creation? Like 8? By this I mean actors playing him.

William Hartnell was the First
Patrick Troughton was the Second
Jon Pertwee was the Third
Tom Baker was the Fourth
Peter Davidson was the Fifth
Colin Baker was the Sixth
Sylvester McCoy was the Seventh
Paul McGann was the Eighth
Christopher Eccleston was the Ninth
and now
David Tennant is Tenth

If the BBC hold true to the history, there should be three more Doctor's before he's finally dead.

Hey look, a subject i'm actually knowledgeable on :D

Yeah and thats the problem, at this rate he may be dead very soon! I'm sure they will figure out something if they are desperate enough to keep it going. :p

Yeah the first episode had me on the fence, Chris Eccleston wasn't the problem, it was the dumb crap like the trash can swallowing Mickey that really annoyed the hell out of me. I thought it was pretty stupid even for the Autons. Its honestly one of the WEAKER episodes in the batch. Episodes 2 and 3 are a HUGE improvement.

Give it a chance Shane.

I actually was watching my old Doctor Who tapes and DVD's before this show even premiered last year with Cath trying to see if she liked it or not (Trying to find ANOTHER common interest we may share heh). She enjoyed a couple of them (Pyramids From Mars with Tom Baker she loved because she is into Egyptian stuff) but wasn't really anxious to watch them as I hoped. Anyway this new series comes on and she was HOOKED, seriously...Couldn't wait for Saturday to download the latest off the groups. Even last night on the way home from dinner we were talking about the show and she says "Dude, I cannot WAIT for the new episodes to start, if they were on PBS I'd actually throw them $50 in pledge money."

We're now hopelessly addicted to these Coupling DVD's as well...Speaking of the Beeb. ;)

Dude that looks sweet...I hadn't seen that DVD yet, can't wait for the Season 2 box set. :)

The Christmas Invasion was cool, we really enjoyed it and I think Tennant will fill in nicely although my wife was sad to see Eccleston leave. I loved at the end the nod to Tom Baker when he was in the Tardis wardrobe with the scarf on while rummaging through his clothes for his new outfit.

I'm looking forward to the Sarah Jane/K9 "School Reunion" and the new Cyberman episodes...Looking sweet!

Holy crap! That many. Just think, less than 35 years from now, that'll be the amount of James Bond actors.

I've always wanted to watch the shows but never have until I caught it on the SF channel the other night. It blew me away with the stunning visuals, acting and storyline...and I think I need to go out and start collecting the series on DVD from it's beginning.

If you have never seen the older series, I HIGHLY recommend the following to get started:

Ark In Space
Pyramids Of Mars
Robots Of Death
Talons Of Wang Chiang
Horror Of Fang Rock

In that order...These are good "Beginner" stories of the ones that are currently available on DVD. These were some of the ones I showed my wife and she really enjoyed them, and they involve no real backstory and are very self contained starring the Doctor that pretty much everyone knows or has seen, Tom Baker.

Of course this summer my all time favorite story is coming out on DVD: Genesis Of The Daleks. If you've seen the new series episode "Dalek"and want to see how the Daleks came about and the "Madman" Chris Eccleston refers to that created them check it out.

Also realize that the way the series is now is different than how it used to be. Up till now they were always 30 min part serials that compromised a 4-6 part in full story arc so these DVDs are about 90-120+ in length for one individual story.

This is my FAVORITE show on 'the tellie'....

FANTASTIC characters (Billie Piper is so amazingly engaging as 'Rose', whatta a smile and such ease in the role!) and both Tennant and Eckellson (sp?) are GREAT.

Im blessed to have a sweet pixie redhead wife that LOVES scifi stuff too, so we are hooked!
Ive downloaded every ep so far and burned DVDs to watch w/ her...we BOTH were in tears over 'Father's Day' ("Who am I?" "You're my daddy!" I DARE you not to get choked up on that!...;) and laughed our asses off in 'New Earth' when 'The Last Human' possessed Tennant and Rose!

Also downloaded a few of the older eps out of curiousity...much different feel to them, but they were WONDERFUL too...the entire 'regeneration' idea is simply BRILLIANT and the writing is amazingly involving!

Long Live the Doctor!
(and K9, too!...;)

"ETER-MINATE! EXTERMINATE!!!!"

That last episode "Love & Monsters" was the worst piece of crap ever made with the title "Doctor Who" on it. Horrible...They nearly jumped the shark with that one. Unfortunately the next one doesn't look so promising either, I hope the final 2 parter of the season pumps it back up a bit.

And yes, my pixie redheaded wife loves the show along with me. Its lots of fun! :)

Argh, don't get me started. With the exception of the the two parter, Impossible Planet & The Satan Pit, and School Reunion I have to say that this season has been a little on the poor side compared to last season. I think the trouble is, now Christopher Eccleston set the bar of how the Doctor should be so high, David Tennant can't get close to it, and now with the news that Billie Piper is leaving at the end of episode 13, oh well, hopefully the BEEB can pull something out of their hat for the season finale and for their third season.

And as an afterthought hope they do something good for the spin-off series Torchwood and not have it end up to justify having a few Captain Jack stories.

I actually like Tennant, he has that Tom Baker insanity/seriousness about him and genuinely seems to be enjoying the role. Eccleston was good but he was always so dark and brooding and in the few "Glee" moments where he'd show teeth and raise eyebrows, he'd come off looking very forced doing it. I really thought this season has been great but Idiot's Lantern was ehh, Love & Monsters was just rancid in utter horribleness and now this next episode, Fear Her, looks lame too. School Reunion was IMO the highlight of the season although after watching Girl In The Fireplace a second time it really grew on me and is now my second favorite this season.

People are saying Rose is going to die at the end of the season based on the Devil saying she would "Fall in battle" in the Impossible Planet/Satan Pit 2 parter. Fine with me, she needs to go....She's been on too long compared to other companions and frankly her and her mother are getting on my nerves at this point. At least they got rid of Mickey, he was a horrible actor and a stupid character (He's up there with Turlough, Peri, Teagan and pretty much every companion since the Davidson era in crap companions). IMO Romana 1 was the last good companion the Doc had. :P

Thats the one, she's an ex Eastenders actress who apart from being a stunner (imo) is also increadibly intellegent (she appeared on Mastermind and owned everyone).
