View Full Version : Driv3r - The end of bias free reviews?

Without to much swearing and expletives I will point our well-read, intelligent and "Knowledgable" gamers on this site to a damn ugly crime which has been committed in the world of Game Reviews.

As you know Driv3r has been released (Driver 3) and it seems that this game warrants a low score due to its buggy code, no improvement on the last one, awful AI, etc etc, BUT:

Games radar gave this game a 9.0!
1UP gave this game a high 8!

When we really all know that IGN reviewed it and it got a 5.5!
Gamespot gave it a 5.4!

Someone has been lying, and taking back handers (Oliver North around anywhere?).

If you dont believe me check this picture out:

hehe, or this movie:

or this thread from Rusty Joystick:

http://rustyjoystick.worldispnetwork.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=231&sid=f8efa677980a1ec0919b7569ceb3984e

I mean if the software company is still trying to figure things out and they can't straighten their code out then so be it, im incredibly tolerant of bugs as long as i enjoy the game, and the game has been a labour of love but this is from Reflections! It should NOT have this lack of testing, Awful AI, and a free 10 year step back in time, not for 30+quid.

It is quite clear this game is made in the "Jurassic Park" style, where the hype is so strong, the pre-orders were through the roof, and the company knew this, halved the dev team, upped the advertising and hoped to make a load of profit by cutting cost. Computer generation costs less than actors and dont you believe anyone else!

Check this, you can even stand in front of the enemy, but if they can't see more than half of you, they will not shoot at you, then its just a simple matter of taking them out with all the time in the world. There is absolutely no skill in this game at all and is at least developed in a style common 10 years ago (and it was more forgivable then).

Forget the moon landings, is this the next "BIG" conspiracy?
Are there any "Honest" people left in the world?
Will you ever trust a review from Gamesradar again?

Anyway, I would love to hear from someone who has bought and enjoyed it, or even someone who took it back, or threw it in the bin.

Thx for reading, Piers.

P.S. Shane maybe this "type of thing" and a room in your next rant?

NO surprise here ... I can't even be aghast at this... I assume there is a metric assload of these type of things happening.

I basically trust no one until I see things for myself.

One of my coworkers was dumb enough and actually bought it. Needless to say he already dumped it off at Gamestop the next day.

the driv3r debate is happening on forums all over the net..

one of the most interesting ive found so far is on "spong"

http://forums.spong.com/en/html/forum/viewThread.jsp?message=2121&thread=508&forum=8

ive always suspected that some magazines were taking bribes, ive seen enough dodgy reviews in the past to know that something was wrong, but i never thought it was as bad as this, on the above forum they list loads of games not just driv3r, i am rapidly losing my faith in magazine reviews.

I've NEVER understood how you could honestly review something that is paying your salary.

Its like your boss asking you what you think of his new tie. What are you going to say to him? "Hey bothssss ... looks like a pigeon took a dump on it after your kids ran it over with their bikes, and your wife pulled it out of the dryer too early".

Magazines know where their money comes from (it ain't from the cover price) and they are LESS willing to jeopardize it now.

People can say "This is the way its always been". I disagree. Look back to magazines of the late 80s and early 90s ... Unless you're Nintendo Power, once again, it was important to BE DIFFERENT and ACCURATE to stay in business. Now you stay in business by telling people what they want to hear.

My friends brought this game around to my house the other day on the ps2... I was not impressed within 5 mins I told him to take the game out of my machine because the game was so jerky and was riddled with many bugs and gameplay flaws, tiz a shame because I was looking forward to that game aswell but the games devlopers put hype over substance!!
