So I'm doing a little browsing over at the GameStop (http://www.gamestop.com/search.asp?filter=0&ckSearchcount=1&orderAscDesc=A sc&linkpage=1&rangeFrom=0&rangeTo=ALL&currentpage= 1&keyword=tv%20games&searchtype=quicksearch&platfo rm=0&genre=0&lookin=title&selection=ALL&imageFlag= show&sortby=title&statcd=&publisher=&esrb=&title=& searchcount=20) site, and I can't believe the number of "TV Games" units coming out this year (about 12 so far).
Here are some of my "favorites" :heavy sarcasm:...
-Jakks Pacific appears to be re-releasing the original Namco 5-in-1 as a Pac-Man (http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=322016) unit - and I'm sure Shane will be ALL over their Disney (http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=322003) TV Games.
-Radica will be releasing Sega Genesis (http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=322085) and Space Invaders (http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=322084) TV Games products.
-And Jaleco gets into the action with a Midway Collection (http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=322096) and a World Poker Tour (http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=322097) unit.
So should I buy some Duracell or Energizer stock before Christmas rolls around? :)

I was wondering how long it would be until more of these started to flood the market because of how well the Atari and Namco ones that Jakks put out did. Nevermind the fact that at least from my observations they only sold well when stores had them on sale as giveaway prices.

If any single one of them would be ACCURATE and EMULATION and not some crappy ass hybrid or remake, I might keep getting them.
As it is, they aren't - and that really pisses me off.

I never fell for these packs. The whole concept never bode well with me in the first place. Everyone is out to make a buck
Even though Shane got suckered into a Nintendo 1 trillion in 1 pack (with a gun!) I think those are probably the best in the bunch (just go in thinking you'll get 30-50 games tops and you'll be ok)
I'll stick with emulation :)

I'll stick with emulation as well, but you know these things will once again sell like crazy during Christmas - they make the "perfect stocking-stuffer" for "Average Joe Gamer."

It's pretty funny ... this almost reminds me of the craze over dedicated, "hard-wired," Pong-style game machines in the 70s. The reason those died out is that they created too much clutter when they started taking up space in the closet after the kids were bored of them. I suspect something similar will happen to kill off sales of these machines ... eventually.
Meanwhile, I too am holding out on buying one until they manage to do one right (either perfect emulation or the original hardware in a cost-reduced form factor).

The thing however is that package is not authorized by Nintendo or is it even really a legit product too. Now while yes the company did "remove" the real names and titles to the games, you can tell right away that Super Mario Bros 1 is that.
No thanks, I won't buy a product like that.

I understand why the guy at the fair didn't want me to use the menu - just play the game. There are like 10 games total - none of them 100% right; the two I wanted; Mappy and Pacman - while on the menu, didn't work. Or they were a different game.
Ah well ... buy grey .... get grey ...

Jakks Pacific has done it again....unfortunately. Check out the review of their Ms. Pac-Man unit over at Back In Time (http://www.backntime.net/Classic%20Games/Namco2/FrameNamco2.html).

Did you guys get the ones like they sell at the cart in the mall here? I walked by and there was like a list of 500 games on that thing.

7800 games in mine... About 10 games total ... none of them accurate.

I can proberbly say that I have the oddest TV Game system ever called Mega Joy II (TN 6001)
I manly brought the thing lasy year (for £10) for Ice Climbers (which turned out to be a hacked verson of the nes classic!) but the other games that game with Ice Climbers was well... odd
Pika Man: A Hacked verson of super mario bros. but instead of mario you have PIKACHU!! :(
007: looks, acts and plays a lot like the nes verson of contra :D
Harry's Legand: A rip of an old NES game but instead of the normal head character you have HARRY POTTER!!
Harry's Subway: The same game as Harry's Legand but on a differnt level
Harry School: OK! now this is getting stupid!!!
There were also a few more clones of contra but I can't remeber what they are called!
This Game System has 60 games 10 of them are clones of other games on this System but the game did have dig dug, bomber man, excite bike and 1942 , Pac man and many more classic nes hacked roms... these were unlisanced hacks of nes roms from various companies but luckly from the producers this was a low scale operation otherwise I smell LAWSUITS!

Those nes knockoff machines finaly came to my local mall too. Except it was the mega joy III, it had a lightgun, and extra controller. One funny thing, probly the revision made for "III", it had an nes cart port on the back of the main controller. I may have bought this thing for $20, but these ass-goblins wanted $40. Thats too much to pay for shady bootleg hardware. Hell, mall security was walking right past the booth, I was tempted to inform them of the nature of the product being sold. I wouldent have thought of it, except I was pretty pissed at the price.
Side note; I got to try a ms pac man tv game, and I thought it was ok. Sure, not the pinacle of arcade perfection, but playable. Also, I actualy realy liked the twisty controlls of pole position, on mame I could never get my analog controls un-sensitive enough to make the game realy playable.

Every mall has 'em now it seems ... They are selling them in the aisles like MAD.
I saw the Ms. Pac being played ... its better, but still ain't cutting it.
I can't wait to see how bad they mess up Space Invaders/Qix/Phoenix.

Yes, I saw that exact same one tonight at my local mall! And I was wondering if it was the same one that had been mentioned here. I didn't have time to stop and check it out, but I saw the demo on a television they had set up, which looked to be playing the NES version of Excitebike. Are these things even legal to sell in the US? And I wonder how long 4AA batteries would last playing this thing :)

You might be waiting a long time. Arcade Legends: Space Invaders (http://www.radicagames.com/index.cfm?event=showProdDetail&id=84&categoryId=9) by Radica was supposed to be released this past week, but was a "no show". If you go to the GameStop and EB Games sites to find product info for it, you'll find that the info has been removed. If you go to Radica's site (http://www.radicagames.com/index.cfm?event=showProdDetail&id=84&categoryId=9) , it says the product is available for purchase. Hmmmm... :?

NEVERMIND!
When I was out running around today, I saw the Arcade Legends: Space Invaders unit at a couple of GameStop stores. It's $20, but I didn't pick one up - don't want to take a chance on buying another disappointing "TV Games" product.
