No, not ebay ... Nookbay.

http://nookbay.com/

Got a few million bells lying around? Been dying to get your hands on that super rare metroid? Perhaps you just want to complete your Triforce set. Or maybe you want to snag some new duds. Whatever your Animal Crossing needs, NookBay has it covered. Essentially an online auction house for Animal Crossing DS items, NookBay connects buyers and sellers of the rare and mundane. And once an auction is closed, users simply complete the transaction over Nintendo's Wi-Fi Connection.

Pretty funny.

Yes, that's a funny idea. I find that gamefaqs.com is a great place to buy and sell stuff in AC:WW also btw.

Who wants to bet Nookbay has a TESTER and it's generating whatever item people want, on demand?

Some business they have there.

Yeah, that's so funny ... considering there are TRAINERS already out for the game - you can actually give yourself these items .. FOR FREE.

People are f*ing morons.

Yeah, that was the word, TRAINERS, not testers.

To me, purchasing items from freaking ebay is the same as using a trainer; where's the fun if you can get it without breaking a sweat?!

Where is gaming going! Are people going to start purchasing frags next? Amazing.

This is not about gaming anymore, though. They're already considering splitting the weekly japanese charts in two parts: games and un-games (not non-games -- I know, confusing!). Un-games are fun experiences that qualify as "interactive entertainment" but they no longer strictly fall under the "gaming" category.

Doesn't make any difference. Whether you're selling an in-game weapon on the latest FPS "game" or selling a rare painting in an "un game" - its the same thing. You're benefiting without doing the work - cheating if you want to call it that way - and while some people seem to enjoy cheating, I still don't get the draw.

Stuff like this and trainers absolutely ruin the game. Part of its charm is stumbling upon the items or finding new items you never even realized existed. This happened to me last night, I found a ping pong table and in my gameroom it went! I was :D

Its cool stuff and thats what makes you want to come back to this game every day.

But using something like nookbay or a trainers is akin to buying a game and imputting an invincibility code into it right from the start thereby destroying any kind of gameplay it would even remotely be trying to achieve.

Trading and interacting with others (I.E. My Animal Crack addicted wife) is the way to do these things, not cheating.

I think there is an element of that "Time is money" argument here. Like many other games such MMORPGs, it can take a long time to get to where you want to be. Your time is worth so much money so if they buy it, then they get faster gratification. This does not NEGATE the "They didn't work for it" argument. However then they are working hard making money. Time is the ultimate limiting factor in our lives.

Now, explain something to me.

I went to Nookbay, and it seems like you bid using something called "bells". Does this mean you don't actually use real money here?

Because if that's the case then you could just rip them off by using a trainer to give yourself 1 quadrillion bells.

Bells are the currency in Animal Crossing. So yes, you could.

So, once again, the rich get what they want, while poor people have to work and scrape to get anything. "If sh*t was worth something, poor people would be born without assholes".

Nothing like the level playing field.

In this case, the only person you're cheating, I suppose, is yourself. My question is - if you don't have time to play these games within the parameters required, then PLAY SOMETHING ELSE. Don't play games that were DESIGNED to REQUIRE HUNDREDS of hours of play. There are TONS of other games that can serve your needs.

My point is, you can NOT pay anything - use a trainer - and get everything you want - without any sort of stupid transaction or other crap.

"If sh*t was worth something, poor people would be born without assholes". Way to go with the Another 48 hours quote. :D

My point is, you can NOT pay anything - use a trainer - and get everything you want - without any sort of stupid transaction or other crap. But wait a second. To use a TRAINER you need a passme, a flashcard, and some knowledge don't you think? These people don't even have a clue of what a TRAINER is.

Sure, that's true ... But its not like its BRAIN surgery.

And if you're going to cheat like a bastard, you're going to want to do it several times. I f'ed up and used the trainer on Nintendogs... and I NEVER wanted to play it again. I refuse to do it with AC.

I dunno man ... all seems screwed up to me.

From a gaming point of view it is ridiculous to pay (or even cheat) in order to acquire something within the game, an item, a capability, a skill, something which is part of the experience that, supposedly, is why you're playing the damn game in the first place! By cheating you instantly eliminate the "gaming" part of the equation and you're left with the representation of that "thing" minus the experience.

This is why it seems so ridiculous to us.

But there are (or will be) a large category of open-ended, aim-less, goal-less, time-killing, interactive entertainment experiences which are more akin to toys (rather than games) that can be personalised or otherwise customised in an infinite number of ways and each customisation simply offers a different way of killing time. In this case the mentality is not that of "gaming" in order to achieve something specific, or in order to see everything the game has to offer from start to end - which is where we're coming from. It is a different mentality, that of experiencing various things one may come across by chance, in no specific order and for no particular reason most of the time, in order to have fun for a while and kill some time. These are NOT games, though they are interactive and they are still part of what we call "entertainment".

I don't get it either - but this stuff ain't for us, so just ignore it. There's a HUGE market for un-games out there. Not only that, but Nintendo will be expanding it beyond what anybody can imagine, pretty soon. It's part of their plan.

On a different note: Shane, no such thing as a level playing field, though the means of introducing variation are not all equally interesting of course.

We can either complain about it or go into business right now selling items :).
Now all we need is some Chinese sweatshop gamers!

We could do something else. Use the TRAINER to give ourselves lots of bells... then go and buy every single item at Nookbay. Rig those biddings!
