I have got hold of Pirates Of Silicon Valley.

Apparently it is economical with the truth.

Is there anything I should bear in mind before I watch it?

Obviously as with any movie of this type certain liberties are taken, that said
I really like it, everyone does a great job potraying their roles and for the most part the events depicted are fairly accurate. If someone is just starting to delve into the Gates/Jobs history it's definitely a good start to at least get an idea of their history and background. The soundtrack which reflects the time is great as it changes thoughout the time-periods accordingly. I really enjoyed the way the movie is presented as the characters "step-out" of the presentation at times to point out "key moments". I think you should watch it, enjoy it and if you find it interesting as I am sure you will you can then follow it up by reasearching what is presented, again it's not a biography but definitely presents a the PC history in an interesting manner.

"Pirates" was excellent for all the reasons OldSchool mentions and definitely worth a view, but it is, after all, Hollywood. If you want the story straight from the people involved then you'll want to look at "Triumph of the Nerds" (transcript here (http://www.pbs.org/nerds/part1.html)) which aired quite some time ago on PBS. :)

It's out on DVD now?! Sweet! I had what I taped off of TNT (or whatever channel it was on) slated to be transferred to my PC for DVD burning.

Heh, well yeah but no surprise there huh? Almost every big documentary, or any type of "History of PC" production seems to do this, I swear the average person would think that Microsoft and Apple were the only players in the PC evolution!

Triumph of the Nerds is an excellent companion to this movie. It's also available on DVD.

I watched it last night and thought it was a good film.

Left me with the question of who were the real pirates of Silicon Valley.

The people at Apple working under the flag or the intellectual property thief?

Well worth a look though.

Watched Tron again too.

Wargames next weekend. I haven't seen that for years.

Any other films on a similar theme worth watching?

And don't even think of saying Hackers! Just don't!

I don't know the name of it but I recall (vagely) a movie (years ago), that had this guy who just got this computer and was using it and spilled something on it and I think that something else happened and the computer then became intelligent and started butting into his life. I recall that he was designing a new brick for earthquake prone areas, with the computer.

Yeah I know, vague. But now I would like to know what it is. Perhaps I'll google it or something. I think that it had the word "Electric" in the title. Perhaps "Electric Dreams". I recall liking the movie so I'll have to check it out to add to my collection now. I'll report back if I figure it out.

Yep it was electric dreams. Not the adult movie or the soundtrack (amazon results) It's only available on videotape for $26 at the moment. And maybe someday released on DVD?

Here's some info on it.

Upbeat, escapist 80's movie with a catchy soundtrack by ELO, Giorgio Moroder and others. The slightly geeky hero of the story buys a PC to help him organise his life. As a result of a misadventure, it develops a personality and comes 'alive'. Good clean fun, back when PC's were a enigma in many peoples eyes - anything was seen as being possible. Synthesizers feature largely in this movie, and this seemed a natural way for a computer to communicate to the world, particularly to the new girlfriend. Features a cute Virginia Madsen as the love interest back when she was just getting started in movies. One of the best scenes has Virginia practising on her cello, the computer joins in from the upstairs apartment, then follows a terrific duet, and mistaken identity. Hope it gets released on DVD real soon, including all the original music. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title

Don't forget to watch Sneakers (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0105435/) after WarGames (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086567/).
