It's dissapointing that it's taking so long. Nintendo late to the game again. However, if they get it right, I won't certainly won't mind as much. PSP online can be quite choppy at times and Sony STILL hasn't issued the Web browser update properly yet...

On a related note, I picked up a new DS today after the price drop with Kirby Canvas Curse and one of those ridiculous starter packs (for the screen protectors). It joins my PSP and N-Gage QD of current portables that I play (I've been ignoring my GBA SP in light of the PSP).

Yeah I wish they had their network up earlier, but even Microsoft couldn't launch live at its consoles launch. Im really looking forward to playing some Mario Kart online.
One thing that I found really funny was this:

PN: At E3, we had a great surprise called DS Speak, what's happening with this project?

......

The problem with such a technology, and we saw it with XBox live, is that it takes so much power out of the system, while developers always want to use each once of the power for the gameplay. So it's hard to give up memory, processor and bandwidth in order to do voice.

Now I understand how this could be a problem with the DS's slower CPU and lesser RAM (however Im assuming they can probably offload the task to the GBA CPU, if its fast enough), but this posed no problems whatsoever over Xbox live. I've yet to see a game slowdown because of voice chat, even with 16 players all yelling at each other. Graphical detail doesnt go down in online mode either, so I just don't understand that comment.

I agree that voice chat posed no problems on Xbox Live and in fact the PS2 pulled it off reasonably well as well.

Graphical detail DOES sometimes get turned down a bit, like with Halo 2, I believe, but it's hard to notice something like that and may in fact be related to other factors, like number of players for the display to keep track of.

I'm counting my lucky stars they seem to be doing it RIGHT - and at the right price. I'll play the CRAP out of the DS online; it plays the games I want to play.

Rumor mill is that Animal Crossing will have VOIP.

Now, we need some sort of TUNNELLING protocol to get the OTHER games online - like Meteos, et al.

As well as Advance Wars DS. Need to pick that up ASAP. I love how most of these DS games only require one cartridge for mulitplayer, finally the cost is reasonable.

Here is a good article that details quality of the Wi-Fi play with DS games that supports it:

Advance Wars is at the top of the list. Mwahahahahahahahaha!

Yes, I am such an Advance Wars nut that I am using a character from it as my avatar.
