I started playing this PC game called Amnesia: The Dark Descent and OMG, it's incredible.

When I watched the quicklook (http://www.giantbomb.com/quick-look-amnesia-the-dark-descent/17-3279/) of it and heard that one of the Giantbomb crew members couldn't continue playing it because he was scared, I laughed at that and dismissed it.

Dudes, seriously, this game is truly scary. I don't remember a PC game ever making my heartbeat rate go on like that. Sound is an important part of it and it's top notch. That's actually the scariest part, what you can hear but can't see.

This is a survival horror game made by Frictional Games, who previously developed the Penumbra series (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penumbra_%28video_game_series%29). So far there are no attacks that I have seen, it's mostly interactions with the environment. The coolest part is that you actually should *not watch* the weird things happening or you lose your sanity (health in this game).

Minor spoiler, but this is what this game is about. Last night, as I was turning around looking for stuff in what seemed like an old mansion; I saw a glimpse of something running away from me. At the same time, I heard a particular sound. It almost made me crap my pants! I immediately ran toward that thing as I could feel my heart pounding for real! Man, that was so good.

If you are looking for something to play on your PC and wanna be genuinely scared give this game a try. It's fantastic.

Yeah I beat this guy not too long ago.. It does get intense for sure, especially in the water tunnels.. Unfortunately the ending isn't all that great, but it's definitely a decent game..
Kinda wish there was more things you could do with objects you can pick up..
Oh yea.. dying doesn't have much of a penalty at all...

It does look interesting. I can't say more because I haven't played it, but I'll say this: it looks like you might want to play Eternal Darkness (on the Gamecube) Flare.

Sorry I hold grudges a very long time. And I still haven't played Half Life 2 because of it.

I'm not joking. This game is seriously messing with me. Every time I encounter a monster and I have to hide from it my heart starts pounding, for real.

Maybe it's the fact that I cannot attack them and instead I must run away or crouch behind an object praying it doesn't find me. I feel my nervous system getting all fucked up.

So, I take it that this is a real survival horror and not just an action game with horror elements? (i.e. none of this (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu)?)

HAHAHA.... Wow... he summed it up quite nicely. Indeed, this game may eventually make me soil myself. What other game out there actually makes me think twice about starting to play it? None that I remember.

LOL... today I was in some sort of Prison. I listened to the familiar sound that means a monster is around and he has seen you. I immediately ran to one of the cells and locked myself in. I turn around and the fucking monster is inside as well!

Dead 2 seconds later.

I downloaded the demo off Steam. I wish I could comment on it but the game experience was overshadowed by the sad realization of how much my monitor sucks. The black levels are.. well.. nonexistant. There's no blacks at all; Not even charcoal. The darks are brighter than even the non-darks. The only reason I bought this laptop was because it boasts semi-decent game performance but all that seems a waste if I can't even see the damn games. Perhaps there is a setting in the Nvidia control panel that can improve this?

Well, I know it's a little late, but I just haven't had time. Since it's on sale for half price I'll have to buy the full game and not just the demo. I got frustrated with the demo because I got stuck in the first real sitting and not knowing what to do and had way too many other games to deal with (mainly lots of L4D with a buddy, and of course Fallout New Vegas). So, today's the day I get started on it. I know I'm gonna love it. It just slipped my mind that I even started it. And with Flare's comment of the ending, now I gotta play it just to see.
