Any Amiga fan who remembers this one? I finished it last night again, brought back good memories. One of the games that perhaps deserves a good remake. Just as I remembered, the atmosphere depicted by the simple top-down 2d graphics is surprisingly strong.

I had it, but didn't play it ... Beneath a Steel Sky style game right?

Sort of .. it does fall under the "point & click" adventure-game design umbrella. To me this is a very inspired game, it remains unusually intense throughout and it creates a very strong atmosphere. I highly recommend it - to all amiga fans out there, if you have a spare hour or so, play it (even with a walkthrough to assist along the way, if necessary).

I think I was out of the mood for PNC games at that point which is probably why I never played it. I do remember specifically that there were both ECS and AGA versions available and it spanned a lot of discs. I can't recall if it was HD installable (could have been another reason I didn't play it - I hated disc swapping).

I know it's not everyone's cup of tea - definitely not "twitch", though not a long game by any standards - but still to this day it amazes me how tight and consistent it is, and how it conveys such a strong and intense atmosphere.

In any case, it's interesting and probably deserves a good remake, faithful to the original theme and atmosphere, but with more interactive and action elements. As it is, of course, there's little replayability, though due to its low cost (money and time) it's still well worth experiencing even today. I think the version I finished a few days ago on the emulator was the AGA version.

Yeah.... "Dreamweb" would be nice to see a remake of. But what I REALLY would like to see is a remake of "Moonstone", that game kicked as :)

Moonstone is that beat'em up (or should I say hack & slash) game that had some sort of an underlying story (find the moonstone!) and had an unusual amount of gore, right? It was alright I guess, I know it came out after golden axe but I can't remember if it came out before mortal kombat.

Anyway ... Dreamweb's gore is a lot more intense than moonstone's. I don't want to mention specific scenes and spoil it for those who might want to play and finish it (even with a walkthrough!). There is in fact a WHDLoad AGA version here: http://amigos.amiga.hu/ancientoys/gamefiles/whd/DreamWeb%20AGA.lzx

PC version also looks interesting, I am playing it right now. I'd say overall it seems to be even more atmospheric (though the differences are only subtle).

WHDLoad is such a DAMN handy thing ... I keep meaning to send the dudes some cash. My emu folder is PACKED with WHD installs. The only way to fly.

An infrequent poster stopping by!

I will second the Dreamweb comment for Shane - you will REALLY dig it if you haven't played it before.

I must say its one of the games with the MOST atmosphere and feeling ever generated.

- Top down view
- You have your own apartment
- WITH A COMPUTER!
- Great story involving a few deaths
- in fact you have to do them! (but its in the best possible taste)
- Great rain effects
- One of the BEST soundtracks on the amiga
- I still have the original

Please shane - play this you will love it - we can hear about it in the next show.

Thanks, Piers.

I'm curious to see what you guys thought of this. By the way, I am not sure why but the music in the PC version was a bit better and more atmospheric than the one on the Amiga - I am not sure that's how I remember it to have been back then, however. Strange. (then again I did run the PC version using DosBox and D-Fend, under Win XP, emulating all known music/sound cards of the time like SB, Roland, and so on ... that may be the reason why, I guess... .. incidentally, DosBox and D-Fend work VERY well together and give a new lease of life to those old DOS games, I've been running "Rise of the Dragon" which is also quite interesting)
