As a follow up to our discussion on the show about the MW Gamercard Score, I thought I'd post an update on the Top 25 to get things started.

You can access the most recent Top 25 by clicking "Home" to the left of "Forum" on the site's navigation bar. Your Gamercard (if you are logged in) will appear on the upper left-hand side of the page along with a link to the leaderboard.

Remember, the score is based on participation across all sites and services of the MonroeWorld community--it's not just a post-count thing. As an example, in addition to participation in the forums, using Nintendo Game Manager to manage your game collection, share friend codes, start a tournament, etc. could also contribute to your score.

Here's the Top 25 as of today, May 25, 2010:

There are a lot of people in a very close range - and I can tell you those scores are PURELY forum related. The people that REALLY participate in the community are double those scores.

There are currently NINE ways to score points - each one has a different WEIGHT based on community contribution.

Some deal with forum participation, most deal with NGM participation (some of what Alex mentioned).

Yup, you need to be logged into Nintendo Game Manager for it to work at the moment. I believe Shane is fixing this so it will work when you are logged into the forums.

Go to http://nintendo.monroeworld.com and log in with your MonroeWorld credentials (they are the same across all services in the community).

Is there also (plans for) a Sony Game Manager (PS3, PSP), and a Microsoft Game Manager (360)?

I'm not sure folks realize it, but aside from the boatload of programming hours Shane has put into NGM, we spend a ton of time each week entering new games into the database and keeping the existing entries up to date. Information, box shots, screenshots, videos--that stuff doesn't just appear there automatically each day.

I won't speak for Shane, but for me personally, I only dabble in Sony and Microsoft gaming--it takes a dedicated enthusiasm for the platform to put that kind of time in almost daily to keep the database accurate and relevant.

Did I mention we have day jobs too? :D

Thanks man, it is working perfectly now. The only other issue is that I am not number one on the list. You can fix that later though. :)

Thanks for the quick fix.

Perhaps the community can help out. (Worked for Wikipedia.) Is there no a way to open it up for user contribution without handing over "the keys to the house" so-to-speak?

We had over a half dozen Nintendo editors at one point, they all seem to drop out eventually hehe.

Do editors have access to vital code that could possible destroy the site? If not, how about making everyone an editor? The wiki-style approach could attract new users. Of course, this will cause problems in the long run (if the site becomes extremely popular) but not in the fetal state.

Well, a few things ...

1) The site is for Nintendo stuff only. The database, the SQL calls - everything - is Nintendo driven. Even if you could be an "editor", you couldn't add or edit anything that wasn't Nintendo related.
2) The "editor" tools are very very rough. They are NOT ready for anyone other than editors that have been more or less trained to use them. This ain't a wiki ... I'm writing all these tools by hand. In some cases, there is NO validation, no protection against sniffing out passwords or other security issues, etc.

Anyone that wants to be an editor, I'll let them. But it cannot be "open season" ... Wiki's require an insane amount monitoring and moderation - and I sure don't feel like doing that.
I don't think people have a good idea what it actually takes to create and maintain this stuff.

I do, God bless you man.
I don't have that level of dedication, but I sure as hell appreciate that you do. :)

While I'm here, I noticed that my gamercard says I'm 21 of 4213 but when I click the leaderboard shortcut under that, it lists me in 18th place. Just an FYi.
