Interesting that you thought the accelerometer on the iPad wasn't sensitive enough, Shane -- I've been finding that it's actually a touch TOO sensitive for my tastes. :)

Someone stealing your trash.. sounds like you need a security robot and gun turret on your house Shane.
Set some Dragon Lair Traps.. before they steal your car or house again next!

I think someone is playing with you Shane.. muhahahahaha

I stenciled my address onto my trash can. After losing 2 over 10 years, I figured whatever asshole neighbor takes it will take some else's from now on.

Dude, seriously -- if that was true, would it be funny? Of course not. Laughing and LOL are not punctuation. They don't fit at the end of every sentence or sentiment.

I was thinking the same thing... Maybe a PCMCIA card with a fat compact flash card is in order...

In regard to the iPad, the whole appeal is that it IS a bigger version of the ipod touch. Maybe the weight thing is an issue (either that or you need to hit the gym, lol), but I'm just gonna come out and say it... if you spend more than 30 minutes at a time browsing the web on a screen < 5 inches, you're retarded. You guys (Womp/Shane) are the ones talking about how the Droid is enough to replace a lot of things you're doing on the PC, so don't tell me for a second that an iPad can't be a Netbook replacement.

IMHO, there is an appeal for a 'touch device' that's bigger than a phone. Maybe a full-size Android 2.x tablet would be a nice alternative... assuming one actually existed.

Just heard your show and want to comment a couple of things:

- Companies that don't have an email address/contact number/make you write a handwritten letter shows that customer service doesn't exist (refer to Shane Sony tech supp story, at least there was someone on the other line better than no one)

- Stolen trash cans must be reported to the police?? I thought police won't investigate in stolen cases with amount at least xxx amount of dollars. Seriously, how much is a trash can really worth. Shane's robbery I can understand should be reported to the police but one trash can?? Ok, I can understand for the city to get people to report to the police for missing trashcans if 1/2 the city were too robbed of trashcans.

- About the iPad, did you get a chance to read any books on the device? It seems you missed that part of the review.

It COULD have been the demo unit they had - maybe someone dropped the bitch or something.

You don't own the trash cans here ... the city does.

She does on HERS .. but not on the work computer (which is the OTHER end of the data route).

I was thinking the same thing... Maybe a PCMCIA card with a fat compact flash card is in order...

As above, the problem is that she would still need a reader on the other end ... Still ... Anything to inconvenience her further at this point ... hehehehehe

Maybe that's the deal .. I don't spend more than 5-10 minute bursts on the Droid. Instead of spending an hour browsing in one shot, I consume smaller bites.

"Hey! What's that? Is that your hand? On my ass? What the hell is that about? Your fingers are in my ass cheeks."

"We were orgying man ...."

I didn't have time to find and fire up the book reader. Remember, *I* don't have a problem with reading off a screen ... but I know a LOT of people do.

If I could get her to use online storage, she could be using her Google Docs account - technologically, she just isn't there for that yet.

When you do find time to test drive the iPad again, I am curious to find out the comparison review with the Kindle.

About a year ago my trashcan disappeared the same day it was my scheduled pickup. I called the sanitation dept and they said they would bring a new one one in a week if it did not show up. A week later my exact same trashcan showed up. Maybe they had me down as not paid or moving or something and picked it up but realized they were wrong and brought it back. Wierd.

Shane, you're hilarious. You really sound like you are trying to convince yourself that you don't need an Ipad. It's okay if you don't want an Ipad! You don't have to defend that to anyone. Comparing it to the Droid is silly though, the Droid and the Ipad are very different devices that share certain functionality and are both equally impressive tech toys for different reasons. If your Droid makes you happy, that's great! Keep it and enjoy! But saying that having maps on your phone is nothing new would be missing the point of the Ipad....that big screen makes a huuuuuge difference when it comes to doing all sorts of things. I'll have alot more fun with Google Earth on the ipad than I do with it on the Touch.

Let me ask you this....would you rather be looking at maps on a tiny screen or a big screen? Would you rather browse through a classic gaming magazine on a tiny Droid screen or on an Ipad screen? The size of the Ipad screen really does expand the practical usability of the Ipad in comparison to the Ipod Touch. Will I use an Ipad for reading books? No, i'll use the Kindle for that because the Kindle is superior with its E-ink. But you know where the Kindle is lacking? Well, color of course! I'll buy a colorful storybook for my kids on an Ipad before I'll buy a grayscale (and poorly formatted mind you) children's book on my Kindle. And have you see what some of these colorful books look like? They are gorgeous. Not only are they beautiful looking, but they also offer (and this is true of the Ipad in general) an enriched experience for interacting with content. Look at the book "Alice" for example, where you can turn the ipad around or shake it and actually affect the world inside the storybook. This way of interacting with content is only the beginning, imagine the possibilities that a platform like Ipad can provide.

Now where gaming is concerned, I always prefer my ds and wii but the app store has its fair share of fun games that make sense on the platform. I personally think more often than not that they are shoe-horned, but there are games like Flight Control and Angry Birds that I absolutely love. And check out the retro rehash of the Atari 2600 game Warlords that just came out for the Ipad! It allows four people to play, each at one corner of the Ipad.

The point is, there is a place for Ipad and there is a place for the Droid phones. They are both great platforms that offer different experiences. I say enjoy them both for what they are and be happy we live in such an amazing time where we can enjoy such products.

On the topic of thumb drives / micro sd readers, I recently customized my micro sd reader into a (slightly gay) lego man ... http://spinalcode.co.uk/hardware/usb-lego%C2%AE-man/

Shane,

Once you feel like being nice to your wife again on the subject of the USB Thumb drives I would consider one of these: http://www.lexar.com/echo/echo_ze.html . If she can manage to get that stuck on something and break it off she is very talented. Although there's absolutely zero chance of soldering anything to that because it's so small.
