I've been digging through some old games and I was considering playing this game (I have it on the Forgotten Realms Archives--original floppies would probably have decayed by now). However, the Gold Box games were ported to a ton of different machines, this being before the days of Microsoft dominance. So which version is the best? Do the Amiga, C64, etc. versions have better music or graphics than the PC version, either of Pool of Radiance or of Gold Box games in general?

The Amiga version of the original Gold Box Pool of Radiance is best. It has revamped 32 color graphics and nice sound, far better than the PC version. I beat it on and still have the Amiga version. Sadly, not every Gold Box or SSI AD&D game received the same care on the Amiga. Towards the end of the series, the Gold Box games received a graphics and sound upgrade on PC...

Well, as I recall, the latter Gold Box games where no longer native Amiga games, but rather ports of the crappier PC versions. But the first few rocked.
Better to fire up Legacy of the Ancients on the C64... :)
