This will be a fun thread. I'm curious which arcade games you guys were able to beat with one quarter (excluding fighters and games with no end)?
How about listing the ones we, classic gamers, remember from our old days? From the top of my head I remember I could beat these ones:
- Magic Sword
- M.E.R.C.S.
- Wild West Cowboys of Moo Mesa
- Strike Force
- Contra
- NARC
- Shinobi
- Shadow Dancer
- Night Striker
- Robocop
- Robocop 2
- Rastan
- 1943
- Alien Syndrome
- Escape from the planet of the Robot Monsters
- Golden Axe
- Golden Axe 2
- Heavy Barrel
- Cabal
- Cadash
- Willow
- Snow Bros.
- Gunforce
- Power Drift
- U.N. Squadron
- Midnight Resistance
- Toki
- Ninja Commando
- Captain America and the Avengers
- World Grand Prix
Out of those, the one that gave me the most satisfaction finishing was Strike Force, mainly because it was so hard that when I did it it was amazing. Contra was more like *YAWN*... so easy.

Ah, I never got to see an actual Dragon's Lair or Space Ace cab here in Mexico, but at one point an arcade brought Dragon's Lair II: Time Warp
I saw guys finishing the game with one 1 life also, it was crazy. Remember the Beethoven stage? Total madness!

Its not much, but I can beat the mega man arcade games on one credit. And as long as im in a calm invronment without the booming crap around me in a modern arcade, I can get to the last level of Strider on 1 cred, in fact almost one life, but the bosses and obsticles just bombard me at that point.

Well i never saw it in the arcades, i got the home version on the aTARi ST and let me tell you, that was probably the first time i saw nudity in a game LOL. I didnt rate the game as much as the other two, double dragon i completed with my brother, so that was cool.
Im going to an arcade today ill try to complete a game!
Oh i did complete time chrisis and point blank aswell :)
Anyone play gouls and goblins in the arcade? that game was EVIL, and i mean satan made that game! its so damn hard...

Ghosts and Goblins was sooo hard! In contrast, Ghouls And Ghosts was easier, not very easy but it was bearable.
My respects to the people who actually beat Ghosts And Goblins with one coin.

Remember those people who were very good at gun games by Exidy? (Crossbow, Cheyenne, Combat)
I sucked so hard at those, maybe because at that time I was not so tall that I could actually play them properly; but I'd see these guys come in and stay in the Cheyenne machine for hours! I'd love to hang around the machine just to watch them play.

I spent a lot of time and money on Chiller (http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?letter=C&game_id=7328). And to think, 6 years later people would "lose their minds" over the "excessive blood and gore" in Mortal Kombat (http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?letter=&game_id=8753).

What was the worst on the Ghosts / Goblins series was how once you finally do reach the end guy you have to go back through the whole game again in order to get the super weapon to kill the last boss!
Damn it was hard enough the first time!!! Pumped about 2 bucks into the machine to get to the end

I could finish Dragon's Lair on one life, but the money I spent learning how to play that game could have bought me the darn machine!

Awesome! I'd never seen that game! In '86, that'd freaked me out.

Yeah, I would play it with a buddy of mine "back in the day" and we just couldn't believe an arcade game like this ACTUALLY got released. Of course the only place that had that game at the time was my local bowling alley - there was NO WAY in hell that game was going to be put out in the mall arcade.

oh wait i was looking through the arcade yesterday and i remembered i completed three other games
Golden Ax
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Simpsons
pit fighter (with ty only)
Oh news from the arcade i was in, they had lots of games there all the fighters and stuff, racing games the usual. But then i noticed something there was the queer looking machines that where in namco cases (god only knows why), but they where 500 - 1 arcades. It had games like lode runner and disc of tron on it, im pritty sure its emulated like mame. They asked 50c a go which is fair i guess, i played ghouls and goblins because we where talking about it here. I got HUMILIATED! damn that game is hard. I Also played a game called Captin Commando (great scrolling beat em up) and an odd scrolling beat em up based on dungeons and dragon, the controls where akward which took some of the shine off the game, but still a goodie. Played some silent scope 2, got the highest score! Played streetfighter the original, man i love the bass on that game, the punch sound sounds like it hurts man!
Didnt clock anything just got high scores! sorry guys failed the mission...

sounds like a decent arcade. nice going on silent scope :D
Theres a great arcade In Skegness (it was even mentioned in Retro gamer Magazine) all original cabinets ranging from vindicators to Street fighter 2. I always play moto frenzy when im down there. Skegness is a great place for old arcade machines.

yeah its weird, the popularity of arcades may be dimming in USA and UK but in asia its treated likea social events like going out with friends. There are non official tourneys on games and stuff, the asians usually like the racing games but they are also fighting game circuits. None of the games really come in the original cabinet just a 2 joystick 6 button cabinet, failey standered. Its the only floor with the arcade its one of the bigger one sive seen in a while, and i actually enjoyed going there, maybe next time ill take pictures for you guys :)
And ps
B Rik u scott? coz u sound it lol!

Hey deanster... are you talking about that LOUD arcade in Montreal? I;ve been there with my girlfriend & I saw that 500 in 1 arcade machine.... I dont think it`s emulation though... Could be . I`m curious to know.

Just remember that everyone's experiences with the cabs may not be the same because different arcade operators could and have configured the game's settings differently. (eg. one person beating the game with 3 lives on one credit vs someone else beating it with 2 on one credit )
If someone in this thread takes credit for beating x game with say 8 lives per credit that would be bogus!

never in an english arcade man, they always put it on the harest settings, stingy cunts! And Chip im in new zealand in auckland they have this huge arcade called the control room, also has a bar right next to it with a pool hall! There where also 300 - 1's too which had slightly more upto date games, they didnt seem that bad if it was emulation, disc of trons looked ok not sure about the sounds coz not ever pld the original cab...

I was able to finish Pit Fighter with Ty and Kato... could never do it with Buzz... With Ty I would do the old cartwheel-elbow combo; with Kato I would do the thousand-hands combined with double-tap forward.
Apparently with Buzz you could do the roll-kick combo just like with Ty but it didn't work as good.

Maybe that could work... it could be possible, but it might require some practice.

None.
I hate DD3. I played the NES version which is said to be better than the arcade. It still sucks. I read a review on a DD fansite and I'm wondering if we were even playing the same game. He rated it higher than DD and DD2. What the hell am I missing?
Punching is too slow and I get owned by regular enemies. Dammit!

dd2 wasnt the same as the arcade dd2 so im guessing dd3 isnt much better? and flare you gotta get them to commit to a move before throwing thats why i asked? maybe u need to roll more with buzz? just a suggestion i dotn really wanna try it out on mat2 coz it aint really doing it especially at twice the speed :D
