I recently bought the Midway Arcade Treasures 2. I've never had the pleasure to play the arcade version of Narc and I'm wondering how true the game on that compilation is to the original arcade version in terms of gameplay and difficulty? The latter because I played through the whole game in my first attempt, something that I never have succeded with any other arcade-based game.

The game is pretty true to the arcade except for the fact that I never had unlimited quarters to continue. That's one negative thing about MAT2 is that you can't put a cap on the number of continues. Oh sure I could do a mental tally or toss a finite amount of coins into a soup can to cap myself but it's too easy to "cheat" and keep plugging in credits.

So, how many continues did it take for you to beat Narc :) ?

I understood that he meant in one credit, with him saying he played through the whole game in his first attempt.
In my opinion that's really not hard at all. I did it in the arcade back in the day.

Ack, when I typed the "first attempt" didn't register. Sorry. Reason being I don't know of anyone who I've seen play the game be able to beat it on one play because Narc is notorious for dishing out cheap shots. I've watched my friends pump tons of quarters into it and eventually, after practice, they could beat the game with only two bucks.

So what's the secret? I know if you are able to get enough arrests your score will go through the roof and you can get lots of extra lives but later on the baddies start to rain bullets and hypo-needles at you that make arrests very difficult.

True, in the first two stages you rack up a lot of points by arresting everyone. Later on, you start shooting, but also arrest if you can; you need skills to avoid the multiple shots in the last stages, but with lots of lives, you can make a couple of mistakes anyway.
