View Full Version : Post your Uplink issues here!

I'm SURE we'll have issues -- please post your bugs here.

1) Include a screenshot if you get some sort of visual error.
2) Steps to recreate would be GREAT.
3) ALWAYS post your browser name and version (i.e. Opera 9.2, IE7, Firefox 2.0, etc)
4) Please be as verbose as possible - you can't have TOO much information when tracking down bugs.

Thanks!

Just tried emailing my Friend Codes to someone. It seems to have worked fine but I did get the following message:

Warning: mysql_fetch_array(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /hsphere/local/home/darkuni/wifi.dualscreenradio.com/sendcodes.php on line 44

I'm using Firefox 1.0.6 (Mac OS X)

I see ... I fixed it -- it only sends DS codes at this time - doesn't send Wii or Wii game codes.

I'll get on it.

Works now for Wii stuff... Wii gets sent twice ... Have to work that bug out .. but at least it's working.

In my "Your Wifi Friend Codes Statistics", it lists me as having 3 friends added, yet I have added everyone in both Pokemon Diamond and Pearl and checked off their names.

Am I just not understanding what "friends added" means or is there something amiss?

Click the blue ? circles .. should answer your question...

When I do that, it defines 'Friends Added' as "...friends that you have entered their code in your copy of the game but they have NOT added your code to their game."

By my reading, that should be ~20 people. That is, the number of people I have added (and checked off by their name, turning their entry yellow), but have not gotten around to adding me yet. I'm only having 3 show up in my statistics box

The "trusted friends" counter seems to be correct as far as I can tell.

I can log into the Wi-Fi Uplink now, don't know why I had problems in the first place? anyway upon sorting some of my codes out, I've noticed there is two Picross DS boxes, is there any significance to this or are they for different regions of the game.

The Wi-Fi Link is awesome, thanks for all the hard work and effort put into it, it's a great tool.

EDIT: Just found the answer to my question, it is regional difference.

Hello...

In my wi-fi friend code statistics, it lists me as having 7 trusted friends and 24 friends added. The trusted friend statistic is correct, but I have only added 1 friend. All of these are for the wii, and when I bring up the find friends box and expand all for that, I do only have 7 green bars and one yellow bar in the find friends list.

Also, the two links in the wi-fi statistics (expand these games next to friends added and friends pending) don't seem to do anything when I click on them.

I am using Internet Explorer 7.0.5730.11.

Hello...

First, welcome! Nice to see a new face!

All of these are for the wii, and when I bring up the find friends box and expand all for that, I do only have 7 green bars and one yellow bar in the find friends list.

So you have 7 "green" friends and 1 "yellow" friend (all under Wii) - and the overall stats are showing you have 24 "red" friends? And you see no red entries under Wii?

Would you PM me your username/password so I can log in as you and see what you're seeing?

I see the error under IE7. I'll fix this. Sorry you're having issues.

I repaired the error - those links won't appear to do anything unless you have games with friends in those status areas. But, it no longer throws an error anymore.

I just don't get how to navigate this thing, it says I have people wanting to be my friend but I don't even know how to accept the request let alone put in my Friend Code.

Then it's saying I'm a bad friend, which really frusterates me because I don't know how to approve the damned friend request.

Help?

Shane R. Monroe
06-12-2007, 01:54 PM
Pretty simple. Expand a game on the left. See if you have any "red" friends (those are people that have added you, but you haven't added them). If so, click FIND FRIENDS. On that list are people in red. You need to ADD THEM to your DS game, then check mark them off. At that point, they become GREEN friends. Read the FAQ too. Might help.

No, I have 7 (well, now 8) green friends, and 24 yellow friends (all under Wii)...but expanding the friends list only shows 8 green friends (and I never added 24 people, so I don't know where the 24 yellow friends are coming from). Here's a quick question...I have a few games I need to update my friend code for--for various reasons (mostly, I play off of my flashcart rather than the original cart for everything but Animal Crossing and MarioKart to cut down on the carts I carry with me). I know there's a way to extract the save from the cart and everything, but I've already started over with most of these games and don't want to give up my new savepoints, etc.

My question is this: How will uplink treat my code if I change it? Will my "friends" be notified and dropped from the "added" list until they re-enter me into their game? Or do I have to manually notify each and they will remain on the list with the wrong code until it's changed on their end?

Also--one more quick question hehehe: is there a link to my Wii Friend Code List like the DS one in my signature? I didn't notice a generator for one in the sharing center where the DS one lives.

Shane R. Monroe
01-21-2008, 05:40 AM
I'm afraid it's just not that smart yet. It's something I need to code in.

Change you code in the Uplink, then notify your friends manually - for now.

alexjlopez
01-21-2008, 03:03 PM
That'll work--fortunately, I haven't added very many of my newer DS WFC games so it won't be so bad.

Shane R. Monroe

alexjlopez

A note on a couple of the WiFi game profiles on Uplink:

-Endless Ocean probably needs two entries to cover for EU and US versions. The friend codes for the EU version come up invalid when entering them into the US version.

-EA threw a monkey wrench into things with the whole "EA Persona" system. Although it's a little more flexible than Nintendo's friend code system, we'll need a different way to track personas on Uplink. Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 and Madden 08 both have this problem (both have entries on Uplink that are currently empty of users).

Hope this helps. :)

Shane R. Monroe
03-16-2008, 10:25 AM
What's the format of personas?

alexjlopez

Let me know ... I'll try to build it into the system where people can add that as well.

alexjlopez
03-16-2008, 11:36 AM
Confirmed--it's an alphanumeric user name with a 16 character limit. I verified on both MoHH2 and Madden 08 which are the only EA games that use the system, as far as I am aware of.

Shane R. Monroe

I HATE letting people freehand text ...

alexjlopez
03-16-2008, 12:30 PM
Maybe an easier way would be to handle it in the user's forums profile, like an ICQ or AIM number. Then in uplink, for those few games that use it there could be a message that reads: "see my profile for my EA persona", perhaps with a link. That way it doesn't taint the Uplink system.

Just thinking out loud. ;)

Shane R. Monroe
03-16-2008, 01:06 PM
Maybe enter all Zeros for your wifi number and use the NOTES for your EA persona ...

alexjlopez

DaMenace

Also, there were some games that I used to own where I had posted my friend codes up but now due to unfortunate circumstances I have lost those games...
Even though I deleted them off my owned list, the friend codes showed up there anyway..
I had to manually delete the friend codes off the respective games in order to shorten my list to what it really is now..
Just an FYI. :-)
Great service Shane!

Shane R. Monroe

It'd be nice if I could somehow place in sub-codes for my youngest.. Especially with the wii speak now on the system. He's dying to add friends to his wii games and ds games but I'd like to exercise some control over his friends code and being a member here gives me a level of comfort and control that I don't have just entering some friends code from some random website which I wouldn't be comfortable with...
Even setting up a separate profile using my E-mail address to keep an eye on things?

Shane R. Monroe
11-29-2008, 08:44 AM
All the websites are built around the VBulletin architecture and it doesn't really allow for a subordinate type account.

That sort of feature I could hand-write into the system, but I fear it would take me quite a bit of time.

My only solution for the interim is to get a "semi-private" email address and sign him up with that. It's actually what I do with my own kids' email.

Essentially, I got a gmail account, locked it down with a password my kid doesn't know. I installed an email program on the kid's computer that POP3s the Gmail account, but leaves the mail on the server. Now, she gets her mail on the email client, and I can "audit" her via the web - by logging into the Gmail account. Something like this might work for you.

At some point, I wanted to add a "parent portal" to these sites. I will keep your feature request in mind when we do.

Same errors at the bottom of the page under "registered tournaments". Not sure if it's just me or if others can view and join my tournaments.

Alright, more work to be done. Keep the reports coming in.

Maybe you don't have any pending? Working here in FF and I'm sure it works in Opera. Can you give me your browser and version?

Not sure if this is a bug or not but I can't do anything with Friends Pending, I've clicked on the link to expand these games but all I get is a message in bottom left saying javascript:void(expandOnFriends('red'));

I've looked in other places to try and see who has added me and in which game but can't seem to find it, what am I doing wrong?

I fixed the bad references to the DATE file ... Alex, give it another go.

AH! That's something out of my control. I'll get this fixed by the host in an hour or so ... I'll let you know.

I've tried it in IE 8.0.6001.18783 and Opera 9.64.10487 on 2 different computers now but nothing. If I don't have any Friends Pending wouldn't it have a 0 next to the option?
